Talat’s 108 Overdhadowed By Kashif & Haris

Pakistan Television (PTV) defeated Ghani Glass by 10 wickets, while the remaining two matches of the fifth round of the President’s Trophy Grade-I ended in draws on Friday.

At the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, Kashif Ali and Haris Rauf shared nine wickets as Ghani Glass were dismissed for 337 in their second innings despite a fighting century from Hussain Talat. PTV then knocked off the required 12 runs in three overs, finishing at 15 without loss.

Kashif returned impressive figures of 23-8-60-5, while Haris recorded 23.5-3-91-4 as Ghani Glass, who had conceded a massive 326-run first-innings lead, added 154 runs to their overnight 183 for three.

Hussain Talat, who resumed on 39, struck a defiant 108 — his eighth first-class century — while Mohsin Riaz converted his overnight 29 into 76. The pair added 192 runs for the fourth wicket to keep Ghani Glass in contention. However, following Talat’s dismissal at 297, the last six wickets fell for just 40 runs as Kashif and Haris tore through the lower order.

Talat faced 183 balls and struck 19 fours, while Mohsin’s 238-ball innings included 12 boundaries.

At the Diamond Cricket Ground, Kingsmen Academy opted to bat for much of the final day rather than push for victory as their match against Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) ended in a tame draw.

After conceding a 17-run first-innings lead, Kingsmen Academy resumed at 167 for three and batted until they were dismissed for 440 in 110.2 overs, setting SNGPL a target of 424.

Mohammad Suleman, who resumed on 26, completed a century before being dismissed for 125 from 194 balls, including eight fours and two sixes.

Mohammad Shayan contributed 75, while Mohammad Ilyas scored 39 and Mehran Mumtaz 24.

For SNGPL, Sameer Minhas claimed four for 57, while Shahnawaz Dahani took two for 58.

SNGPL reached 15 without loss in five overs before the match ended in a draw.

At the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, the contest between State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) also ended in a draw after SBP survived a difficult final day.

SBP, who had been dismissed for just 56 in their first innings in reply to KRL’s 144, were set a daunting target of 346 and finished at 136 for five in 53 overs. Faham-ul-Haq top-scored with 52, while Ghazi Ghori and Hasan Raza contributed 26 and 23 respectively.

Earlier, KRL resumed their second innings at 173 for two and declared at 257 for four, with Mohammad Faiq narrowly missing a century. Faiq, who resumed on 57, fell to Sirajuddin for 98 from just 77 balls, striking 10 fours and two sixes.

The fifth round produced two outright results, with PTV defeating Ghani Glass by 10 wickets and MIT Solutions registering their first victory of the tournament after beating OGDCL by 75 runs on Thursday.

Sixth round matches will commence on 12 October.
