LAHORE: Mohammad Zeeshan’s excellent bowling performance put WAPDA in sight of a third successive victory in the President’s Trophy, while defending champions PTV were in trouble against Ghani Glass when play ended on the second day, Saturday.

After resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 307 for six at the UBL Sports Complex, WAPDA were dismissed for 323, with Sahir Associates’ Razaullah claiming four for 44 and Khan Zaib finishing with four for 81.

However, WAPDA struck back through Mohammad Zeeshan, who first bagged three for 23 to bundle out Sahir Associates for 103. When Sahir Associates were forced to follow-on, Zeeshan snapped up four for 18 as the debutants ended the day at 94 for five, requiring another 126 runs to make WAPDA bat again.

For Sahir Associates, Asim Ali Nasir top-scored in the first innings with 58, while Fahad (28) and Mohammad Saleem (25 not out) were the notable scorers in the second innings.

At the National Bank Stadium, PTV ended the day leading Ghani Glass by 116 runs with three second-innings wickets in hand.

Ghani Glass, in reply to PTV’s first-innings score of 186, resumed this morning at 109 for five and were dismissed for 223, with Khurram Shahzad scoring 48 and Yahya Bin Abdul Rehman 43. For PTV, Amad Butt was the most successful bowler with four for 51.

After conceding a 37-run first-innings lead, PTV finished the day in a spot of bother at 153 for seven, with Mohammad Suleman (45), Arafat Minhas (34), and Yasir Khan (30) battling well. For Ghani Glass, the Test duo of Noman Ali and Mir Hamza shared four wickets equally between them, conceding 34 and 45 runs, respectively.

SNGPL’s new-ball pair of Shehzad Gul and Shahnawaz Dahani wrecked State Bank of Pakistan at the State Bank Stadium. Shehzad returned figures of 11.4-1-37-5 and Shahnawaz registered 11-3-23-4 as State Bank were dismissed for 115 in reply to SNGPL’s 263.

Earlier, SNGPL had started the day at 197 for four and added 66 runs to their overnight score. After gaining a 148-run first-innings lead, SNGPL finished the day in some trouble at 23 for three, with Test fast bowler Mohammad Abbas bagging two for 11.

At the NBP Sports Complex, half-centuries by Waqar Ahmed, Saad Baig, and Imran Rafiq helped KRL finish the day at 305 for five in reply to OGDCL’s 244.

Waqar scored 81 from 107 balls (10 fours), and opener Saad Baig scored 80 from 128 balls (10 fours) as the two added 162 runs for the second wicket. Imran, who was batting on 54 from 152 balls (5 fours), then put on 66 runs for the fourth wicket with Junaid Ali (34).
