LAHORE: Mohammad Ammar and Khalid Usman put on 277 runs for the sixth wicket to steer WAPDA out of trouble on the opening day of the third-round President’s Trophy match against Suhair Associates at the UBL Sports Complex on Friday.

Opener Ammar was still batting on 140, while Khalid was dismissed in the final over of the day for 93 as WAPDA ended at 307 for six after being none for two and then 70 for five. Ammar has faced 264 balls and has struck 22 fours, while Khalid’s 174-ball innings was studded with eight fours and two sixes.

Suhair Associates’ Khan Zaib was the pick of the bowlers, finishing the day with figures of three for 70.

At the State Bank Stadium, SNGPL batted at a snail’s pace to score 197 for four in 80 overs against hosts State Bank of Pakistan. Opener Azan Awais accounted for almost 65% of SNGPL’s runs when he saw off the day at 103 not out from 242 balls with 13 fours and a six.

Shan Masood (35 off 75), Omair Bin Yousuf (22 off 45), Ali Zaryab (17 off 84) and Abid Ali (10 off 36) also played uncharacteristic innings, indicating challenging batting conditions. Azan and Ali added 69 runs for the first wicket, while Azan and Shan put on 67 runs for the third wicket.

Fifteen wickets fell at the National Bank Stadium as Test fast bowler Mir Hamza produced the best bowling performance of the day. Mir Hamza returned figures of 14.4-0-55-5 as defending champions PTV were skittled out for 186, with opener Shamyl Hussain scoring 68 (76b, 5×4, 4×6) and Taimur Khan scoring 24.

However, PTV struck back by reducing Ghani Glass to 109 for five, with Israr Hussain and Amad Butt taking two wickets each. Kashif Ali with 27 and Saad Nasim with 21 were the prominent run-scorers.

At the National Bank Sports Complex, Mohammad Hamza took four for 31, Ahmed Bashir three for 63 and Arshad Iqbal two for 65 as KRL dismissed OGDCL for 244 shortly before stumps.

For OGDCL, Danish Aziz was the top scorer with 56 (95b, 7×4), while other notable run-scorers were Jawad Ali (32), Mohammad Sarwar Afridi (31), Umar Siddiq (28) and Mohammad Imran (25).
