Sri Lanka Women Win ODI Series 2-1
Sri Lanka Women beat Pakistan Women by eight wickets in the third ICC Women’s Championship 2025-29 ODI to clinch the three-match series 2-1 in Hambantota on Tuesday.
After past bowler Chethana Vimukthi took three wickets in the second over of Pakistan’s innings, the tourists limped to 187 all-out in 40 overs. The target did not challenge the side that had chased down a 274-run target in the previous match, and they achieved victory for the loss of two wickets in 37.2 overs.
Harshitha Samarawickrama top-scored with 71 not out from 92 balls with 11 fours, Chamari Athapaththu scored a 38-ball 52 with seven fours and two sixes, while Hasini Perera remained not out on 50 from 77 balls with eight fours.
Pakistan needed wickets to defend a modest score on a good batting surface, but Sri Lanka did not give them those opportunities. Athapaththu and Vishmi Gunaratne (12) gave Sri Lanka a 46-run start from 39 balls before Athapaththu and Samarawickrama added 39 from 48 balls.
Samarawickrama and Perera put on a decisive 106 runs for the unbroken third wicket from 137 balls. Sri Lanka had managed 210 in the first ODI to go down by five wickets, before producing a dominant performance with both bat and ball to record a come-from-behind series win.
Earlier, Pakistan, put in to bat, recovered after losing three wickets in five deliveries of the second over to post 187 in 40 overs. Fatima Sana came out to bat at 78 for four in the 16th over and was the last batter out, scoring 41 from 49 balls with two fours and a six.
Opener Gull Feroza scored a 35-ball 40 with five fours, Muneeba Ali made 34 from 71 balls with three fours and Najiha Alvi scored 30 from 39 balls.
For Sri Lanka, Kavisha Dilhari (three for 27), Chamari Athapaththu (three for 27) and Chethana Vimukthi (three for 36) shared the wickets.
Despite losing the series, Pakistan have momentarily moved to third position on 10 points, behind New Zealand (13) and Sri Lanka (12). West Indies (eight) round out the top four, with each side having completed three series of three ODIs.
