Fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar Jnr. took three wickets for the PCB Patron’s XI on the second day of the three-day non-first-class match against Sri Lanka in Islamabad on Thursday.

Shoaib, one of the five fast bowlers vying for the two vacant places in the Pakistan Test side, finished with 9-3-22-3 as Sri Lanka closed the day at 121 for six in their second innings. He had gone wicketless in Sri Lanka’s first innings of 223 for seven declared. Saqib Khan and Ubaid Shah, two of the other fast bowlers, took one wicket apiece, while Mohammad Salman and Ali Shabbir remained wicketless.

Earlier, the Patron’s XI resumed their first innings at 43 for two and declared at 151 for eight.

Azan Awais scored 50 from 85 balls with nine fours, while Mohammad Tayyab Arif scored 30 from 40 balls with seven fours. Mohammad Taha (29), Ali Usman (15 not out) and Saad Baig (10) were the other batters to reach double figures.

Sri Lanka led by 193 runs with four second-innings wickets in hand.
