Sameer and Momin Shine in JDW’s Victory
LAHORE: Opener Sameer Minhas scored a century and left-arm spinner Momin Qamar took nine wickets in the match as JDW defeated Railways by nine wickets to end the President’s Trophy Grade-II Gold on a winning note in Islamabad on Monday.
Momin grabbed three for 74 and Hasan Hafeez bagged three for 42 as Railways were limited to 274 for nine from their allotted 70 overs. Railways had slipped to 43 for four before Abdullah Zubair (84, 117b, 8×4, 2×6), Jahanzaib Naveed 51 (81b, 7×4, 1×6) and Kamran Khan 49 (43b, 4×4, 3×6) rescued the innings.
JDW, in reply, posted 383 for five in their 70 overs with Sameer scoring 110. His 108-ball innings included 12 fours and three sixes. His partner Sahibzada Abdullah scored a 144-ball 85 with seven fours as the two batters provided JDW a 181-run start. Sameer then added 59 runs for the second wicket with Adeel Mushtaq, who was the fourth batter to be dismissed after scoring 78 from 76 balls with nine fours. Nasir Nawaz (36) and Farhan Yousaf (30) were the other notable contributors.
Trailing by 109 runs on the first innings, Railways were skittled out for 175 in their second innings with Momin returning figures of 14.4-1-56-6. He was well assisted by Mahboob Ahmed (two for 37). For Railways, Abdullah Zubair top-scored with 54 (73b, 8×4), while Afkar Durrani (25) and Mohammad Nasrullah (20) were the other main run-getters.
Needing 67 for victory, JDW romped home in 8.2 overs for the loss of Sameer (12). Sahibzada Abdullah and Adeel Mushtaq scored 25 not out each.
