England routed Pakistan by an innings and 103 runs inside three days of the Headingley Test, setting the tone for the remaining two Tests at Lord’s and Edgbaston.

After bundling out Pakistan for 171 in 48.1 overs, England responded with 409 in 89.5 overs – adding 43 runs in 7.5 overs on Friday morning. Trailing by 238 runs on the first innings, Pakistan continued to remain in a flat spin when they were dismissed for 135 in 37.3 overs.

This is the 10th time in 25 wins at home that England have defeated Pakistan by an innings margin. Their previous innings margin wins were in 1954, 1962 (two), 1978 (two), 2001, 2006, 2010 and 2018. Pakistan’s heaviest defeat against England in England remains in the infamous 2010 Lord’ Test, which was by an innings and 225 runs.

Mohammad Rizwan was Pakistan’s top-scorer in the second innings, scoring 41 from 39 balls with five fours, while Shan Masood scored 29 with five fours. Abdullah Shafique and Saud Shakeel were the other two batters who reached double-figures.

For England, Ollie Robinson followed up his five for 51 with three for 29, while Josh Tongue followed up his five for 46 with three for 43. Jofra Archer took three for 50.
