Vishmi Gunaratne and Harshitha Samarawickrama stunned Pakistan with a 203-run second-wicket partnership that helped Sri Lanka achieve a formidable 274-run target with eight wickets and 19 balls to spare in the second ICC Women’s Championship 2025-29 ODI in Hambantota on Saturday, levelling the three-match series 1-1.

Opener Vishmi Gunaratne scored 123 and Harshitha Samarawickrama an unbeaten 100, outshining Sidra Amin, who had earlier scored an undefeated 100 to steer Pakistan to their highest ODI total against Sri Lanka. While it was Sidra’s seventh ODI century in her 91st appearance, it proved to be her fifth in a losing cause.

Gunaratne and Samarawickrama joined hands after Fatima Sana had dismissed Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu for one with the score on 20. Pakistan would then have to wait 211 balls for their next breakthrough, by which time the pair had added 203 runs. By the time it came, at 223 in the 40th over, it was already too late — the home side added the remaining 52 runs for victory in 45 balls without losing another wicket.

Gunaratne’s run-a-ball 123 included 11 fours and a six, while Samarawickrama’s unbeaten 100 came off 119 balls and included nine fours. Kavisha Dilhari remained unbeaten on 40 from 33 balls, striking five fours.

Pakistan’s bowlers, who had restricted Sri Lanka to 210 for nine in the series opener, had a tough day in the field, with only Fatima Sana (one for 44) and Nashra Sundhu (one for 60) picking up wickets.

Earlier, Sri Lanka’s decision to field first appeared to backfire as Pakistan posted 273 for five, their highest ODI total against Sri Lanka. Sidra Amin, who walked in during the fifth over with the score at 19, remained unbeaten on 100 from 120 balls, her innings laced with 13 fours.

Sidra was involved in three useful and entertaining partnerships.

For the third wicket, she put on 78 runs from 89 balls with Ayesha Zafar, who played some sparkling strokes in a 45-ball 49 that included five fours and two sixes. For the fourth wicket, Sidra added 88 runs from 105 balls with Muneeba Ali, who contributed 45 from 62 balls with four fours. For the fifth wicket, Sidra and Fatima Sana added 41 runs from 29 balls, with the Pakistan captain contributing 25 from 18 balls, including four fours.

The third and final ODI will be played on Monday.
