Pakistan complete historic run chase

October 10, 2023: Pakistan have completed a monumental 345 run-chase to record their second win of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

After splendid hundreds from Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama, Pakistan were set a massive 345 run chase to get over the line. Hasan Ali picked up 4 wickets, while Haris Rauf bowled well in the death to pick up two.

In their run chase, the men in green were reduced to 37/2 when they lost captain Babar Azam. However, Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan then put together an incredible 176 run stand, with Shafique scoring a memorable hundred on his World Cup debut.

Mohammad Rizwan, meanwhile, continued his rich run of form, soon getting to the three figure mark as well. He stitched handy partnerships with Saud Shakeel and Iftikhar Ahmed to get Pakistan over the line. The wicketkeeper batted through cramps, to finish the game for Pakistan, scoring a career best 131*.

Pakistan are now scheduled to play India on October 14 in Ahmedabad.
