Khalid Usman Takes 10 Wickets; KRL Rout SBP For 56
Khalid Usman claimed 10 wickets in the match to help MIT Solutions defeat OGDCL by 75 runs, while KRL bundled out State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) for a paltry 56 on the third day of the fifth-round President’s Trophy Grade-I matches on Thursday.
At the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium, Khalid followed his first-innings figures of six for 23 with four for 39 as MIT Solutions dismissed OGDCL for 145 after setting them a target of 221. This was MIT Solutions’ maiden victory of the tournament, while OGDCL suffered their second defeat.
After securing a 30-run first-innings lead, MIT Solutions resumed at 29 for one and were dismissed for 190. Hasnain Nadeem, who scored 121 in the first innings, top-scored again with 55, while Bismillah Khan contributed 36.
For OGDCL, Danish Aziz emerged as the surprise package with four for 33, while Mohammad Salman and Mohammad Amir Khan took two wickets apiece.
Chasing 221 for victory, OGDCL were bowled out for 145 in 32.5 overs, with Saad Khan fighting a lone battle through a defiant 96 from 99 balls, including 15 fours.
Apart from Khalid’s four for 39, Mohammad Ismail claimed four for 48.
At the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, PTV tightened their grip on Ghani Glass, who trailed by 143 runs with seven second-innings wickets remaining.
PTV resumed at 324 for four and were eventually dismissed for 428, securing a commanding 326-run first-innings lead over Ghani Glass, who had managed only 102.
Mohammad Ammar, who resumed on 80, completed his century before being dismissed for 124. His 249-ball innings included 16 fours and two sixes.
For Ghani Glass, Test fast bowler Khurram Shahzad claimed four for 133, while former Test spinner Noman Ali took three for 82. Shoaib Akhtar picked up two for 115.
Ghani Glass produced a better batting performance in their second innings, reaching 183 for three at stumps. Hammad Butt scored 63, while Hussain Talat was unbeaten on 39 and Mohsin Riaz on 29.
At the Diamond Cricket Ground, the contest between Kingsmen Academy and SNGPL remained evenly balanced.
SNGPL, resuming at 140 for two in reply to Kingsmen Academy’s 217, were dismissed for 234 to secure a slender 17-run first-innings lead. Test batter Shan Masood top-scored with 83 after resuming on 45, while opener Azan Awais added nine to his overnight 53 before being dismissed for 62.
For Kingsmen Academy, Test fast bowler Mir Hamza claimed four for 39, Mohammad Ilyas took three for 60 and Mehran Mumtaz picked up two for 19.
Kingsmen Academy reached 167 for three at stumps, extending their overall lead to 150 runs. Openers Mohammad Tayyab Arif (70) and Mohammad Huraira (42) provided a solid start with a 92-run partnership, while Mohammad Suleman was unbeaten on 26.
At the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, Arshad Iqbal claimed four for 24, Faheem Ashraf three for 14 and Ahmed Bashir two for nine as KRL skittled SBP for just 56 in 21.2 overs. Ghazi Ghori (20) and Kamran Ghulam (10) were the only batters to reach double figures.
KRL, who had scored 144 in their first innings, strengthened their position by reaching 173 for two at stumps, extending their overall lead to 261 runs.
Openers Shahzaib Khan (52) and Raja Hamza Waheed (48) laid the foundation, while Mohammad Faiq was unbeaten on 57 and captain Iftikhar Ahmed on six.
