LAHORE: PTV’s Ali Usman took six wickets to help his side grab a 29-run first innings lead against leaders WAPDA on the second day of the sixth-round President’s Trophy match at the UBL Sports Complex on Wednesday.

WAPDA started the day at 29 for no loss in reply to fourth-placed PTV’s 269 and were bowled out for 240, with Ali Usman returning figures of 30.2-4-112-6 and Amad Butt picking up three for 58. WAPDA opener Muhammad Akhlaq was the top-scorer with 73 from 140 balls, hitting nine fours and two sixes, while Khalid Usman (43), Bismillah Khan (39) and Sharoon Siraj (31) were the other notable run-scorers.

When stumps were drawn for the day, PTV had reached 123 for six, leading WAPDA by 152 runs with four wickets remaining. Arafat Minhas (28) and Waqar Hussain (22) were the main scorers for PTV, while WAPDA’s Khalid Usman took two for 21.

Second-placed SNGPL fought back after scoring 199 in their first innings to limit third-placed KRL to 175 all-out at the KCCA Stadium. When play ended, SNGPL had reached 125 for two, leading KRL by 144 runs with eight second-innings wickets intact.

KRL had started the day at 61 for two, and only Sufiyan Moqim (33) and Sarmad Bhatti (30) offered some resistance against Shehzad Gul, who finished with figures of 16.4-7-38-5. Test off-spinner Sajid Khan took two for 51.

SNGPL’s former Test opener Abid Ali and Mubasir Khan will resume the innings on Thursday on 46 and 14 runs, respectively. The two SNGPL batters dismissed were Azan Awais (34) and Shan Masood (17).

At the State Bank Stadium, Ghani Glass conceded a 12-run first innings lead to Sahir Associates and then saw out the day at 166 for six.

Ghani Glass, who managed only 155 in their first innings, fought back to dismiss Sahir Associates for 167. Sahir Associates had started the day at 75 for two and were rescued by No.7 batter Muhammad Mohsin Khan, who scored 74 not out from 79 balls with 11 fours and two sixes. For Ghani Glass, Ali Shabbir was the pick of the bowlers with four for 72, while Mir Hamza took three for 31. Test spinner Noman Ali bagged two for 39.

In their second innings, Ghani Glass were 166 for six – leading by 144 runs with four wickets remaining. Hammad Butt top-scored for Ghani Glass with a 122-ball 77, hitting 11 fours and a six, while Ali Razzaq scored 33. Khan Zaib followed up his six for 86 in the first innings with three for 48.

Sixth-placed State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) were eyeing a comfortable win against seventh-placed OGDCL at the National Bank Stadium.

SBP, after dismissing OGDCL for 76, racked up 388 after resuming the day at 246 for one. Abdullah Fazal resumed this morning on 140 and was out after scoring 182 from 231 balls with 26 fours and three sixes. Mohammad Hurraira, who was 95 overnight, was out after scoring 110 – his 11th first-class century in 64 matches. Hurraira faced 180 balls and struck 12 fours.

Abdullah and Hurraira added 274 runs for the second wicket, but after the partnership ended with the total at 278, the remaining batters could add only 110 runs as SBP were dismissed for 388.

OGDCL, trailing by 312 runs on the first innings, ended play at 125 for five, with Umar Siddiq scoring 42 and Haroon Arshad 35. For SBP, Qasim Akram has taken three for 42.
