LAHORE: Khan Zaib of Sahir Associates and SBP’s Niaz Khan both claimed five-wicket hauls, while Abdullah Fazal of SBP struck a magnificent unbeaten century on the opening day of the President’s Trophy sixth-round matches in Karachi on Tuesday.

At the State Bank Stadium, Khan Zaib returned figures of 19-4-86-6 to spearhead Sahir Associates’ attack, dismissing Ghani Glass for a modest 155. Despite a 45-run opening stand between Sharjeel Khan (45) and Khawaja Arham (21), Ghani Glass collapsed to 105 for seven before a gritty 33 from Noman Ali pushed the total to 155.

By stumps, Sahir Associates had reached 75 for two, with Mohammad Faiq (36 not out) and Mohammad Saleem (24 not out) at the crease.

WAPDA negotiated a tricky final period to reach 29 for no loss at stumps.

The most one-sided action occurred at the National Bank Stadium, where State Bank’s Niaz Khan returned figures of 11-6-19-5. Alongside Qasim Akram (three for 20), he helped bundle out OGDCL for a paltry 76.

In response, SBP’s Abdullah Fazal played a delightful innings of 140 not out, well-supported by Mohammad Hurraira, who remains unbeaten on 95. Abdullah’s 187-ball knock featured 19 fours and three sixes, while Hurraira’s composed innings has come off 164 balls with 10 boundaries.

The pair has added a formidable 242 runs for their unfinished second-wicket partnership, leaving SBP in a commanding position at 246 for one.
