Fatima Sana will return as Pakistan women’s captain for this month’s ACC Asia Cup and next month’s Asian Games, after missing Sri Lanka’s T20Is earlier this month due to her commitments with The Hundred in the United Kingdom.

The Asia Cup will be held from 28 August to 13 September in Dubai. Pakistan are in Group A along with Hong Kong-China, India and Thailand, while Group B comprises Bangladesh, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates. The Asian Games cricket event will be held from 17 to 22 September, and Pakistan will play directly in the fourth quarter-final against Thailand on the opening day.

Twelve players — Muneeba Ali Siddiqui, Shawaal Zulfiqar, Ayesha Zafar, Gull Feroza, Saira Jabeen, Eyman Fatima, Eman Naseer, Fatima Sana, Umm-e-Hani, Tuba Hassan, Nashra Sundhu and Momina Riasat — feature across both squads. Najiha Alvi, Waheeda Akhtar and Sadia Iqbal have been picked for the Asia Cup but will be replaced by Aliya Riaz, Tasmia Rubab and Humna Bilal for the Asian Games.

Sadia Iqbal, who missed the Sri Lanka tour due to a knee injury, is back in the side for the Asia Cup, while Aliya Riaz returns for the Asian Games without having played any competitive cricket recently. There was no place for Diana Baig in either squad.
