LAHORE: Mohammad Basit’s century went in vain as Athar Mehmood and Afaq Afridi produced match-winning spells, while Mohammad Suleman and Musa Khan inspired Pakistan Television’s fightback as three of the four President’s Trophy Grade-I fixtures were decided on the third day in Karachi on Tuesday.

Basit scored 107 off 195 balls with 14 fours for Sahir Associates, but could not prevent his side from an innings and 151-run defeat against SNGPL at the NBP Sports Complex. Forced to follow on after conceding a massive 439-run first-innings deficit, Sahir resumed at 68 for three and were dismissed for 288.

Asim Ali Nasir, who started the day on 33, was out for 71, while Mohammad Faiq scored 54 as the pair added 113 for the fourth wicket. Basit and Asim then put on 87 for the fifth wicket before Sahir lost their last six wickets for 33 runs.

For SNGPL, Athar Mehmood was the standout bowler, returning 18.2-6-66-5, while Shahnawaz Dahani took two for 41.

At the National Bank Stadium, Mohammad Adil took four for 42, Naqeebullah grabbed three for 43 and Aqib Khan claimed three for 59 as WAPDA beat KRL by six wickets.

After conceding a 35-run first-innings lead, KRL resumed their second innings at 189 for seven and were bowled out for 197, setting WAPDA a target of 163, which they achieved for the loss of four wickets. Bismillah Khan (46), Sharoon Siraj (33), Imran Dogar (24) and Ayaz Tasawar (21 not out) led the chase, while KRL’s Ahmed Bashir picked up two wickets.

At the UBL Sports Complex, Afaq Afridi followed up his four for 65 with five for 30 as Ghani Glass defeated Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) by seven wickets.

OGDCL, resuming at 75 for two and only 25 runs ahead, were dismissed for 127. Besides Afaq’s 13-2-30-5, Mir Hamza took three for 19 and Ubaid Shah claimed two for 41.

Chasing 78, Ghani Glass reached 80 for three in 24.1 overs, with Sharjeel Khan top-scoring with 21.

At the State Bank Stadium, SBP, chasing 240, finished the penultimate day’s play at 148 for eight. When play resumes on Wednesday, SBP will need another 92 runs, while PTV will require two wickets for an outright victory.

After being dismissed for 99 and conceding a 54-run first-innings lead, PTV responded strongly in the second innings, posting 293 in their second outing – thanks to Mohammad Suleman’s superb 100 off 175 balls (10 fours, four sixes).

Suleman added 107 for the fourth wicket with Usman Salahuddin (42) and then 93 for the sixth wicket with Arafat Minhas (81).

Set 240 for victory, SBP were rocked by Musa Khan, who returned figures of 8-1-45-5. Mohammad Hurraira top-scored with 76, while Rameez Aziz was unbeaten on 31 at stumps.
