50 Wickets Fall On Day 2 Of President’s Trophy

LAHORE: The ball continued to dominate the bat in the President’s Trophy as 50 wickets fell on the second day across the four matches in Karachi.

At the National Bank of Pakistan Sports Complex, 16 wickets tumbled. SNGPL declared their first innings at 575 for five after starting the day at 460 for two, before bowling out Sahir Associates for 136. Forced to follow-on, Sahir Associates finished the day at 68 for three, still requiring 371 runs to avoid an innings defeat.

The wrecker of Sahir Associates’ first innings was Test spinner Sajid Khan, who returned figures of 16.2-6-22, while Shahnawaz Dahani claimed two of the three wickets to fall in the second innings. For Sahir Associates, Asim Ali Nasir scored 50 in the first innings and followed up with 33 not out.

Earlier, SNGPL added 115 runs to their overnight score. Shan Masood, who was 212 not out, was dismissed for 216, while Saad Khan (44), Omair Bin Yousuf (43) and Mohammad Awais Zafar (23 not out) also contributed. For Sahir Associates, Mohammad Hasnain and Bilawal took two wickets apiece, conceding 104 and 106 runs respectively.

Thirteen wickets fell at the National Bank Stadium, where WAPDA, resuming at 75 for four, were dismissed for 151. In their second turn at the wicket, KRL – who had scored 116 in their first innings – were 189 for seven at close, leading by 154 runs.

WAPDA’s first innings was anchored by Sharoon Siraj, who scored 77 from 131 balls with nine fours. From a comfortable 56 for two, they collapsed to 151, with KRL’s Mohammad Hamza the chief destroyer with figures of 15-7-36-5 and Arshad Iqbal taking three for 48.

After conceding a 35-run first-innings lead, KRL reached 189 for seven. Waqar Ahmed (52) and Shahzaib Khan (51) added 84 for the second wicket. The wickets were shared by Naqeebullah (three for 38), Mohammad Adil (two for 39), and Aqib Khan (two for 59).

Ten wickets fell at the UBL Sports Complex, where Ghani Glass secured a 50-run first-innings lead against OGDCL. Resuming at 67 for two in reply to OGDCL’s 196, Ghani Glass were bowled out for 246, with Mohsin Riaz missing a century by just two runs. His 98 came off 176 balls (13 x 4, 1 x 6). Ali Razzaq (62) and Sharjeel Khan (53) were the other main scorers.

For OGDCL, Danish Aziz was the pick of the bowlers with 4-31, while Arshadullah and Mushtaq Ahmed took two wickets each.

Trailing by 50 runs, OGDCL finished the day at 75 for two, with Israrullah (35 not out) and Abdul Rehman Muzammil (28 not out) at the crease.

Eleven wickets fell at the State Bank Stadium. PTV, dismissed for a paltry 99 in their first innings, fought back to restrict State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to 153 and then advanced to 191 for five by stumps. PTV now lead by 137 runs with five wickets in hand.

SBP, resuming at 106 for four, added 47 runs before being bowled out for 153. PTV’s Amad Butt and Israr Hussain took three wickets each, while Musa Khan and Mehran Sanwal claimed two apiece.

In their second innings, PTV showed better application to reach 191 for five. Mohammad Suleman remained unbeaten on a 128-ball 75 (6 fours, 4 sixes), sharing an unbroken 53-run stand for the sixth wicket with Arafat Minhas (31 not out). Suleman had earlier added 107 for the third wicket with Usman Salahuddin, who made 42.

For SBP, Test fast bowler Mohammad Abbas took three for 47, with Kashif Ali and Niaz Khan taking one wicket each.
