LAHORE: Batters Omaima Sohail and Saira Jabeen, and bowlers Anam Amin, Umm-e-Hani, Ayesha Bilal and Anosha Nasir failed to break into the national women’s squad for the ODI series against Zimbabwe to be played in Karachi from May 4-9.

Omaima, 29, was the second leading run-scorer of the National Women’s One-Day Tournament with 391 runs from eight matches, while Saira, 25, aggregated 364 runs from nine matches. Similarly, Anam, 34, a left-arm spinner, was the leading wicket-taker with 21 wickets, while Umm-e-Hani, Ayesha and Anosha took 17, 16 and 13 wickets respectively to complete the top five.

However, uncapped Momina Riasat has been included in the 15-member squad. The 23-year-old took 19 wickets in the 50-over competition in December before following up with 16 wickets in the recently-concluded National Women’s T20.

Fatima Sana will continue to lead the side in the series, which is part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2025-29. Pakistan have played one series in this edition, losing 2-1 to South Africa away. Zimbabwe, in contrast, won all three ODIs on their tour of New Zealand last month.

New Zealand lead the standings with 10 points from two three-match series, while Sri Lanka are second with eight points. England, India and Ireland are yet to play a series in the 11-team competition. Each team will play eight three-match series — four at home and four away.

The top eight teams — the top seven ranked sides plus the host nation or nations — will automatically qualify for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2029, with the remaining three teams contesting the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2029 Qualifier.
