Opener Usman Khan and captain Farhan Yousaf hit centuries as Pakistan Under-19 defeated England Under-19 by a convincing 177-run margin in the first of four 50-over matches in Arundel on Wednesday.

Usman scored 151 and Farhan 115 as Pakistan posted 332 for nine. In reply, Mohammad Sayyam took a four-wicket haul as England were bundled out for 155 in 35.1 overs.

Usman faced 136 balls, striking 15 fours and four sixes, while Yousaf hit 12 fours and a six in his 133-ball innings. The two batters added 268 runs for the third wicket after Aliyan Salman (1) and Abdul Qadir (26) were dismissed with the score at 41 in the fifth over. The partnership was broken in the 47th over when Farhan became one of Luke Hands’ two victims.

Usman followed two balls later, falling to Subhaan Ali, the 17-year-old Yorkshire fast bowler, who finished with figures of 9-0-59-2.

In their run chase, England struggled against a bowling attack led by Sayyam and were bowled out for 155 inside 36 overs. Sayyam returned figures of 9.1-1-39-4 and was well supported by Rizwanullah, Ahmed Hussain, and Niqab Shafiq, who took two wickets apiece.

For England, Isaac Mohammed offered some resistance, scoring 72 off 94 balls with six fours and a six.

The second match of the series will be played on 12 September, followed by fixtures on 14 and 16 September.
