LAHORE: A match-winning all-round performance by Tuba Hassan helped Stars comfortably retain the National Women’s T20 title when they defeated Invincibles by 52 runs at the Ghani Glass Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Tuba scored a half-century to lift Stars to 156 for nine and then claimed a three-fer as Invincibles were bowled out for 104. She was later named Player of the Final and shared the Player of the Tournament award with national captain Fatima Sana.

Invincibles had topped the league table with seven wins from eight matches, including a victory over Stars. Stars settled the score by winning the return match — one of four victories they achieved in the eight-team double-league format – and then went on to claim the title.

Electing to bat first, Stars posted 156 for nine with Tuba top-scoring with 50 off 31 balls, including five fours and two sixes. Stars had made a positive start, reaching 28 for no loss before slipping to 96 for seven. Tuba and Waheeda Akhtar (16) then put on a crucial 48-run eighth-wicket stand to help Stars post a competitive total.

Other notable run-scorers for Stars were number three batter Sidra Amin (30, 23b, 1×4, 2×6), Kaynat Hafeez (20, 14b, 4×4) and Omaima Sohail (17, 12b, 3×4).

For Invincibles, Amber Kainat and Momina Riasat took two wickets each, conceding 20 and 40 runs respectively.

In reply, Invincibles never got going and lost wickets at regular intervals before being dismissed for 104 in 16.1 overs. Opener Muneeba Ali top-scored with 27, while Maham Anees scored 18 and Syeda Aroob Shah 17.

For Stars, Tuba returned figures of 3-1-6-3, while Ayesha Bilal finished with 2.1-0-12-3. Omaima Sohail bagged two for 17, while Laiba Mansoor and Waheeda Akhtar took one wicket each.
