Taha’s Century; Five-fers For Mir Hamza And Arshad Iqbal

LAHORE: A third career century by Mohammad Taha and five-wicket hauls (five-fers) by fast bowlers Mir Hamza and Arshad Iqbal were the highlights of a weather-curtailed second day in the fifth-round President’s Trophy matches in Karachi on Thursday.

PTV’s Mohammad Taha resumed this morning at 89 with his side at 348-6. He was eventually dismissed for 119 as the defending champions were bowled out for 414 at the UBL Sports Complex. Taha’s 209-ball innings was studded with 13 fours and two sixes.

For KRL, fast bowler Arshad Iqbal returned figures of 25.1-5-100-5, marking the second time he has claimed five wickets in a first-class innings.

When play ended prematurely due to bad weather, KRL were struggling at 88 for four. Amad Butt and Ali Usman picked up two wickets apiece, while Imran Rafiq remained at the crease on 30.

Test fast bowler Mir Hamza returned impressive figures of 27.3-4-67-5 as SNGPL were dismissed for 452 at the National Bank Stadium. Resuming at 308 for four, Awais Zafar – who started the day on 44 – was unlucky to miss a well-deserved century by just two runs, falling for 98. His 177-ball knock included 11 fours and two sixes.

By stumps, Ghani Glass had reached 37-2, with fast bowler Shehzad Gull claiming both wickets.

At the KCCA Stadium, WAPDA progressed from their overnight 56 for two to 203 for seven, following OGDCL’s dismissal for 159 on Wednesday. Mohammad Ammar top-scored with 74, while Sharoon Siraj (31) provided notable support.

For OGDCL, Jawad Ali bagged 3-21, while Test spinner Asif Afridi took 3-65.

At the State Bank Stadium, Sahir Associates added just 11 runs to their overnight score of 229, finishing 240 all-out. Mohammad Saleem top-scored with 68, while Test fast bowler Mohammad Abbas took three for 30.

In response, SBP reached 73 for one by the close of play, with Abdullah Fazal batting on 36.
