South Africa Women’s U19 produced a strong performance in the third T20 to beat Pakistan Women’s U19 by 52 runs, taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

Captain Mieke van Voorst struck 57 and Daneli Boshoff hit a quickfire 39 not out as South Africa posted 158 for six after electing to bat first. Pakistan slipped to 26 for four in the PowerPlay and were eventually all out for 106 in 18 overs.

Shahar Bano had a forgettable day with the ball, conceding 53 runs from four wicketless overs, but later showed her all-round skills, striking five fours and two sixes in a 22-ball 39. Areesha Ansari (17) and Memoona Khalid (11) were the other batters to reach double figures.

South Africa’s total revolved around a 76-run sixth-wicket stand off 40 balls between van Voorst and Boshoff, who came together at 80 for five. Van Voorst struck a 42-ball 57 studded with nine fours, while Boshoff belted three sixes and three fours to finish unbeaten on 39 from 20 balls.

The pair took South Africa to 158 for six, adding 62 runs in the last five overs alone – a total that proved well beyond a young and inexperienced Pakistan side, who were a shadow of their previous match performance, leaking runs in the field that might otherwise have kept the tourists in check.

The fourth match will be played on Wednesday.
