LAHORE: SNGPL sent Sahir Associates on a leather chase, while wickets tumbled in the other three matches as the President’s Trophy four-day first-class tournament commenced across four Karachi venues on Sunday.

Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood and Ali Zaryab added 390 runs for the second wicket as SNGPL closed the opening day’s play at 460 for two. This came after Sahir Associates had won the toss and elected to field at the National Bank of Pakistan Sports Complex.

Shan Masood was batting on 212 from 185 balls, striking 18 fours and two sixes. Ali Zaryab missed his second career double-century by just eight runs when he was dismissed for 192. His 237-ball innings included 27 fours and four sixes.

At the National Bank Stadium, KRL’s decision to bat first backfired on them as they were bowled out for 116 in 46.4 overs by WAPDA, who reached 75 for four by stumps.

Aqib Khan was the chief destroyer of KRL’s innings, returning figures of 11.4-3-18-6. Naqeebullah and Mohammad Zeeshan took two wickets each. For KRL, only Saad Baig (22) and Junaid Ali (21) passed twenty runs.

At the UBL Sports Complex, OGDCL also failed to capitalise on winning a good toss, managing only 196 all out in 60 overs against Ghani Glass, who were 67 for two at the close.

Test spinner Noman Ali returned figures of 19-4-42-4, while fast bowler Afaq Afridi registered 16-5-65-4. OGDCL’s blushes were spared by No.9 batter Mushtaq Ahmed, who top-scored with 58, lifting his side from 100 for seven to 196 all out.

At the State Bank of Pakistan Stadium, home side bowler Mohammad Ismail returned figures of 6.1-27-5 and Kashif Ali captured four for 19 to dismiss PTV for 99 in 30.4 overs. In reply, SBP had reached 106 for four at close, with opener Hasan Raza unbeaten on 39.

PTV’s top-scorer was Mohammad Taha with 47. He added 38 runs for the third wicket before the visitors collapsed from 68 for two to 99 all out.
