SBP Win; Taha, Faiq Hit Tons; SNGPL, Kingsmen On Top

State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) defeated Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) by four wickets, while Mohammad Taha and Mohammad Faiq struck centuries as Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Kingsmen Academy remained in strong positions on the third day of the fourth round of the President’s Trophy Grade-I on Friday.

SBP started the third morning requiring 124 runs for victory and completed the chase in 27.5 overs for the loss of six wickets. Ghazi Ghori top-scored with 32, Shahid Aziz contributed an unbeaten 24 and opener Hasan Raza scored 20.

Mohammad Amir Khan and Aftab Ahmed gave OGDCL a glimmer of hope by taking three and two wickets, respectively, but the target proved too small to defend.

It was SBP’s second victory of the competition and OGDCL’s second defeat.

At the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, Mohammad Taha’s unbeaten 142 led a strong Pakistan Television (PTV) fightback against SNGPL.

After conceding a 194-run first-innings lead, PTV reached 227 for four in their second innings to lead by 33 runs at stumps.

Taha faced 213 balls and struck 17 fours and a six, while Mohammad Ammar scored 62 from 165 balls with five fours and a six. The pair added 165 runs for the fourth wicket after PTV had slipped to 40 for three.

At the National Ground, Kingsmen Academy stretched their overall lead against Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) to 466 runs with seven second-innings wickets remaining.

Replying to Kingsmen Academy’s imposing 643, KRL resumed at 175 for two and were dismissed for 344 in 91 overs.

Mohammad Faiq, who resumed on 76 not out, struck a brilliant 159 from 239 balls with 21 fours and three sixes. Together with Iftikhar Ahmed, who scored 63 after resuming on 45, Faiq added 121 runs for the third wicket.
