SBP, MIT Solutions In Trophy Final; Babar’s OGDCL Relegated

State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and MIT Solutions qualified for the five-day President’s Trophy final after claiming the top two spots following the conclusion of the league-stage matches on Thursday. However, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), who were represented by Babar Azam in the first two rounds, finished at the bottom of the eight-team table and lost their first-class status for the 2027-28 season.

State Bank finished at the top of the table with 107 points despite Mohammad Tayyab Arif and Mohammad Suleman of Kingsmen Academy denying them victory at the National Ground. Kingsmen Academy finished third with 89 points, ahead of Ghani Glass on net run-rate.

MIT Solutions on Wednesday defeated Pakistan Television (PTV) by six wickets to finish second on 96 points. PTV avoided relegation by just two points after OGDCL failed to defeat Ghani Glass and finished at the bottom of the table with 72 points.

Mohammad Rizwan-led Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), last year’s losing finalist, jumped from the bottom of the table to sixth after defeating Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) by four wickets at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium. KRL finished fifth on 83 points, seven points ahead of SNGPL.

SNGPL, set a 191-run target by KRL, resumed on Thursday morning at 87 for four and were immediately in trouble when Rizwan departed after adding five runs to his overnight 22. However, Abdul Samad scored 69 not out and Mohammad Imran Randhawa 31 not out to earn their side victory and a place in the elite group for next season.

Samad and Imran added 58 runs for the unbroken seventh wicket. Samad faced 103 balls and struck 10 fours, while Imran hit five fours in a 32-ball 31.

At the LCCA Ground, Ali Razzaq stroked his third career century in 16 matches, and Hussain Talat notched up his ninth first-class century as Ghani Glass held OGDCL to a draw and pushed them into non-first-class competition for the 2027-28 season.

Ghani Glass, trailing by 178 runs on the first innings and resuming on the final morning at 82 for three, ended the day at 370 for seven.

Ali Razzaq finished unbeaten on 111 from 151 balls with eight fours and six sixes, while Hussain scored 108 from 142 balls with 13 fours and a six. The two batters put on 109 runs for the sixth wicket.

Following Hussain’s departure, Ali added 114 runs for the seventh wicket with Haseebullah, who was out for 53 from 72 balls with three fours and a six.

For OGDCL, Mohammad Amir Khan took three for 109, while Aftab Ahmed took two for 49.

Mohammad Tayyab Arif scored 120 and Mohammad Suleman 59 as Kingsmen Academy held SBP to a draw at the National Ground.

Kingsmen Academy, after conceding a 27-run first-innings lead, started the day at 166 for two and declared their second innings at 321 for eight to set State Bank a 295-run target. When the match ended, State Bank were 208 for three, with Hasan Raza unbeaten on 128 and Ali Shan on 57.

Hasan faced 187 balls and hit 22 fours, while Ali’s 123-ball knock included 10 fours. The two batters added 144 runs for the unbroken fourth wicket after SBP had slipped to 64 for three.

Earlier in the day, Tayyab Arif completed his third first-class century in seven matches when he was out for 120 after resuming at 91. He faced 110 balls and struck 17 fours and two sixes. Suleman’s 59 came off 37 balls and included two fours and five sixes.
