State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Kingsmen Academy recorded convincing victories as the third round of the President’s Trophy Grade-I concluded at various venues on Sunday, with Mohammad Ilyas claiming 11 wickets, Mohsin Riaz scoring a century and Babar Azam failing for the second time on his first-class return.

At the National Ground in Islamabad, SBP thumped Ghani Glass by an innings and 18 runs, while Kingsmen Academy defeated Pakistan Television (PTV) by 10 wickets at the Diamond Cricket Ground. Elsewhere, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) held MIT Solutions to a draw at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium in Peshawar, while Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) fought hard to deny KRL victory in Abbottabad.

After three rounds, SBP lead the standings with 49 points, followed by Kingsmen Academy (42), OGDCL (39), Ghani Glass (37), KRL (35), MIT Solutions (31) and PTV (28). The fourth-round matches will begin on September 30.

At the Diamond Cricket Ground, PTV, after conceding a 213-run first-innings lead, resumed on 62 for two and were bowled out for 299. Mohammad Taha scored 69 and Sharoon Siraj 61, while Amad Butt (39), Waqar Hussain (37) and Mohammad Ammar (30) were the other notable contributors.

For Kingsmen Academy, Mohammad Ilyas was the outstanding bowler, returning figures of six for 57. He had claimed five for 129 in the first innings to finish with match figures of 11 for 186 – the first 10-wicket match haul of this season’s President’s Trophy.

Needing 87 for their first victory of the tournament, openers Tayyab Arif and Mohammad Huraira steered Kingsmen home without being separated in just 9.5 overs. Huraira followed his first-innings 165 with an unbeaten 40, while Tayyab finished on 44 not out.

At the National Ground, SBP, after securing a massive 316-run first-innings lead, bowled Ghani Glass out for 298 to complete an innings-and-18-run victory.

Ghani Glass had resumed their second innings at 125 for two, with Mohsin Riaz converting his overnight 69 into 117. His third first-class century in 36 matches came from 148 balls and included 19 fours and two sixes.

Ali Razzaq (49), Hussain Talat (26) and Khurram Shahzad (24) were the other useful contributors.

For SBP, Kashif Bhatti claimed three for 21 and Sirajuddin three for 83.

At the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, Babar Azam failed for the second time in the match, but OGDCL held KRL to a draw after being forced to follow-on.

Babar followed his first-innings 12 from 20 balls with four from 15 deliveries as OGDCL, resuming at 34 without loss, were dismissed for 275 after conceding a 181-run first-innings deficit.

Babar was trapped leg-before by Faheem Ashraf, who finished with two for 25. Arshad Iqbal was again KRL’s leading bowler, taking three for 43 after his five for 55 in the first innings to finish with eight wickets in the match.

OGDCL captain Rohail Nazir led the resistance with 72, while opener Waqar Ahmed scored 60. Hammad Khan (37), Razaullah (27), Ali Zaryab (27) and Saad Khan (22) also made useful contributions

KRL were 11 for one when the match ended.

At the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium in Peshawar, Azan Awais and Sameer Minhas shared a 163-run opening partnership as SNGPL comfortably held MIT Solutions to a draw.

Set 394 for victory, SNGPL reached 163 for one, with Azan unbeaten on 81 from 154 balls with 11 fours and a six. Sameer scored 75 from 146 deliveries with 12 fours.

Earlier, MIT Solutions, who had secured a 201-run first-innings lead, resumed their second innings at 33 for one and declared at 192 for seven. Salman Khan Junior top-scored with 52, while Khalid Usman remained unbeaten on 35. Hasnain Nadeem contributed 25 and Syed Awad Naqvi 22.

For SNGPL, Mohammad Azab claimed three for 31 and Mohammad Imran Randhawa took two for 20.
