Sadaf, Fatima Help Pakistan Earn Consolatory Win

LAHORE: Sadaf Shams missed a maiden ODI century by three runs and Fatima Sana produced an all-round performance to help Pakistan Women defeat South Africa Women in the third and last ODI in Durban on Saturday.

Put into bat, Pakistan posted an impressive 306 for eight and then dismissed the home side for 187 in 36.2 overs. However, South Africa, like the T20I series, took the series 2-1.

Opener Sadaf Shams scored 97 from 82 balls with 16 fours and a six, and featured in a 130-run second-wicket stand from 121 balls with Sidra Amin to lay the foundation of a formidable score. She became one of the three Sune Luus victims, who finished as South Africa’s most successful bowler with three for 42.

Captain Fatima Sana was the other useful batter, scoring 60 from 41 balls with three fours and five sixes. For the sixth wicket with Najiha Alvi, Fatima put on 65 runs in 51 balls. Najiha contributed 36 from 46 balls.

Fatima then picked up two wickets for 29 runs as South Africa were dismissed for 187. Left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal, however, was the pick of the Pakistan bowlers with three for 41. Other wicket-takers were Nashra Sandhu (two for 25) and Umm-e-Hani (two for 35).

For South Africa, Annerie Dercksen top-scored with 54 (67b, 3×4, 2×6) and Faye Tunnicliffe scored 47 (51b, 7×4).

Ayesha Zafar was the top scorer of the three-ODI series, which was part of the ICC Women’s Championship. She aggregated 180 runs, while Annerie Dercksen was the second most successful batter with 175 runs.

Sune Luus and Sadia Iqbal finished on top of the bowlers’ chart with six wickets apiece, while Nashra Sandhu and Nonkululeko Mlaba picked up five wickets each.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana remained among the runs and wickets. She complemented her 117 runs with the bat with four wickets with the ball in the series. Fatima had earlier also dominated the three-match T20I series, scoring 146 runs and taking two wickets.
