Yorkshire’s Tom Bradley successfully defended 12 runs in the final over as England Under-19 defeated Pakistan Under-19 by two runs in the third 50-over match at Wormsley on Monday.

After two dot balls, Mohammad Sayyam hit Bradley for a six, but the 18-year-old came back strongly to dismiss Sayyam before conceding just two singles (including a leg-bye), as Pakistan’s teenagers put up a brave fight before falling narrowly short.

Chasing 303 for victory, Pakistan struggled early on, slipping to 124 for five in the 29th over before Hasnain Abbas Dar and wicketkeeper-batter Hamza Zahoor stitched a 154-run sixth-wicket partnership to revive their side’s hopes. However, both departed in the space of four balls as Pakistan were reduced to 278 for seven in 47.3 overs before finishing at 300 for nine in their 50 overs.

Hamza finished as the top-scorer with a 65-ball 86 that featured six fours and five sixes, while Hasnain struck 56 off 67 balls with five boundaries. Ahmed Hussain (38), Abdul Qadir (26), and Farhan Yousaf (24) were the other notable contributors.

Bradley finished with figures of 1 for 59, while Jack Auld was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 67.

Earlier, England U19 posted 302 for six after being put in to bat. Jack Nelson top-scored with 74 off 68 balls, including eight fours and two sixes, while Theo Lamey scored 58 off 85 balls with eight boundaries. Later in the order, Robbie Bowman contributed an unbeaten 32 from 22 deliveries and George Harris added 23 off 14 balls as the hosts plundered 56 runs in the final five overs.

For Pakistan, Rizwanullah returned figures of 3 for 59 in his 10 overs, while Niqab Shafiq, Mohammad Sayyam, and Abdul Subhan picked up one wicket apiece.
Pakistan lead the four-match series 2-1, with the final fixture scheduled for Wednesday.
