Pakistan U19 Fails To Reach World Cup Semifinals
LAHORE: Pakistan’s quest to regain the ICC Men’s U19 Cricket World Cup ended in Bulawayo on Sunday when they failed to qualify for the semifinals. After restricting India to 252 and needing to achieve the target in 33.3 overs to move ahead of India on net run-rate, Pakistan were bowled out for 194, losing by 58 runs.
India, which had lost to Pakistan by 191 runs. will now take on Afghanistan, and Australia will meet England in the semifinals.
Pakistan had the game in their grasp multiple times. They first reduced India to 47 for three from 47 for no loss before the arch-rivals reached 182 for six in 40 overs. A slow over-rate meant Pakistan were allowed only four fielders outside the 30-yard circle in the final four overs, and India pounced on this to score 39 runs to finish with 252 all-out in 49.5 overs.
In their run-chase, and opting for victory instead of improving net run-rate, Pakistan were 151 for two in the 30th over before they capitulated to 192 in the 47th over. Khilan Patel routed the middle and lower middle-order, claiming three for 35.
For Pakistan U19, Usman Khan was the top-scorer with 66 from 92 balls with seven fours, while opener Hamza Zahoor scored a 49-ball 42 with eight fours. Captain Farhan Yousuf was the other notable run-scorer with 38.
Earlier, Abdul Subhan captured three for 33, Mohammad Sayyam claimed two for 69, and Ali Raza, Ahmed Hussain, Momin Qamar, and Ali Hussain Baloch took one wicket each as India’s all-rounders helped their side recover to 252 all-out.
No. 4 batter Vedant Trivedi scored 68 from 98 balls with two fours and a six, while No. 8 batter Kanishk Chouhan scored 35, No. 7 batter RS Ambrish scored 29, and No. 9 batter Khilan Patel scored 29.
