Pakistan Under-19 went down fighting by 10 runs against England Under-19 on the fourth and last day of the one-off Youth Test in Arundel on Saturday.

Chasing 262 for victory, Pakistan U19 slipped from 184 for three to 251 all-out. Earlier, England U19 had resumed their second innings at 121 for one and were bowled out for 233.

After openers Usman Khan (25) and Aliyan Salman (25) provided a 50-run opening partnership, Abdul Qadir (80) and captain Farhan Yousaf (47) added 124 for the third wicket to put Pakistan U19 within sight of victory. But, like their seniors, the teenagers capitulated and failed to cross the finish line as a middle and lower-order collapse saw the last eight wickets fall for 67 runs.

No.7 batter Hasnain Abbas Dar tried his best but lost partners at the other end before he himself became the ninth batter to be dismissed, having scored 35. He had contributed 57 runs in the first innings.

Abdul Qadir, who scored 66 in the first innings, faced 87 balls and struck eight fours and a six, while Farhan’s 77-ball knock included five fours.

England U19 captain Ralphie Albert was the chief destroyer of Pakistan U19’s batting. The 18-year-old Surrey left-arm spinner returned figures of 21-3-68-6. He ended the match with figures of nine of 126.

Albert, who also scored 88 and 40 with the bat, was well supported by 18-year-old Middlesex wrist-spinner Jack Nelson, who finished with figures of 7.1-0-36-4.

Earlier, England U19 resumed their second innings at 121 for one with an overall lead of 149 runs and were dismissed for 233, with Kent’s 17-year-old opener Leo Selvey-Clinton scoring 107. He had started the day on 68 and faced 195 balls, of which 15 were converted into boundaries

For Pakistan U19, Ahmed Hussain, a product of the 2021 PCB-Aitchison College Cricket Scholarship programme, was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 5-0-23-4, while Mohammad Huzaifa claimed three for 40. Fast bowler Mohammad Sayyam snapped up two wickets for 37 runs.

Pakistan U19 and England U19 will feature in four 50-over matches, with the first to be played on 9 September, followed by matches on 12, 14 and 16 September.
