LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board has imposed a two-year ban on Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani for his “failure to honor agreed-upon commitments.” However, the PCB is yet to announce any decision on Sri Lanka’s Dasun Shanaka, who also left the PSL for Rajasthan Royals the day before the start of the ongoing competition.

Muzarabani is the second player to be banned by the PCB after South Africa’s Corbin Bosch was banned last year from the 2026 edition after breaching his contract with Peshawar Zalmi and signing with Mumbai Indians.

Muzarabani had agreed the terms of his contract but had yet to sign it when he took up an offer from Kolkata Knight Riders at four times the fee he had agreed with Islamabad United.

Shanaka acted similarly, informing Lahore Qalandars that he would be joining Rajasthan Royals. However, no action has been announced against the Sri Lanka T20I captain.

The PCB said in a statement that professional cricket operates on the bedrock of trust and the certainty of agreements, and that despite a clear offer and unequivocal acceptance of essential terms, Muzarabani chose to disregard his obligations in favour of a conflicting arrangement.

The board added that once essential terms — including remuneration and structure — are agreed upon through written correspondence, a binding obligation is formed, and that attempting to move away from such commitments without valid cause represents a violation of contractual obligations and principles of good faith that govern global professional sports.

The PCB further stated that professionalism in franchise-based leagues requires participants to act with transparency and consistency, and that entering into a conflicting engagement while a prior binding agreement is in place represents a departure from expected standards. It warned that such conduct, if left unaddressed, erodes the reliability of dealings and the confidence that franchises, regulators and stakeholders place in professional engagements.

“The sanction serves as a necessary measure to safeguard the professional environment of the PSL,” the PCB added. “The PSL remains dedicated to ensuring that the league remains a platform where contractual certainty is respected and where the actions of all players and agents reflect the prestige of the tournament.”
