LAHORE: A maiden first-class century by Hamza Nazar, the seventh career century by Imran Rafiq, and career-best bowling figures by Shehzad Gul were the key highlights of the third day’s play in the fifth round of the President’s Trophy matches in Karachi on Friday.

Hamza Nazar returned unbeaten on 175 and Imran Rafiq scored 170 as KRL, resuming at 88 for four in reply to PTV’s 414, were dismissed for 434 at the UBL Sports Complex. When play ended, PTV were in a spot of bother at 27 for three.

Hamza faced 202 balls and struck 14 fours and 10 sixes, while Imran, who started the day at 30, was out after scoring 170 off 245 balls, including 27 fours and a six. The two batters stitched a 207-run sixth-wicket partnership after KRL had slipped to 126 for five.

For PTV, Ali Usman finished with figures of 37.5-8-117-5.

At the National Bank Stadium, Shehzad Gul returned figures of 16.5-3-51-7 to help SNGPL dismiss Ghani Glass for 201. SNGPL, who had scored 452 in their first innings, forced Ghani Glass to follow-on but found better resistance from the debutants who saw off the day at 125 for one with opener Khawaja Arham batting on 81 from 108 balls with 10 fours and two sixes.

Shehzad, who had taken two for 17 in Ghani Glass’s 37 for two when play ended early on Thursday, played havoc with the batting order as only Tayyab Tahir (53) and Saad Nasim (47) batted with some confidence. Shehzad was well supported by Shahnawaz Dahani, who picked up the remaining three wickets conceding 73 runs.

At the State Bank Stadium, Sahir Associates, trailing by 60 runs on the first innings, were 44 for three in their second innings against State Bank of Pakistan. Test fast bowler Mohammad Abbas picked up two wickets for nine runs.

Earlier, State Bank resumed their first innings at 73 for one in reply to Sahir Associates’ 240 and were dismissed for 300 with Abdullah Fazal scoring 76 after starting the day at 36. For Sahir Associates, Razaullah returned figures of 23-4-88-5, while Hafiz Mohammad Suleman and Bilawal took two wickets apiece.

At the KCCA Stadium, WAPDA were also eyeing victory against OGDCL. When play ended, OGDCL were leading WAPDA by 69 runs with four wickets standing.

WAPDA, in reply to OGDCL’s 159, added four runs to their overnight score of 203 for seven and were bowled out for 207 with Test spinner Asif Afridi finishing with five for 66 and Jawad Ali taking four for 24.

Trailing by 48 runs on the first innings, OGDCL finished the day at 117 for six with Asghar Durrani taking four for 35.
