LAHORE: Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) defeated Pakistan Television (PTV) by four wickets to win the President’s One-Day Tournament at the National Bank Stadium on Thursday.

Electing to bat first, PTV were bowled out for 164 in 40.2 overs, a total which KRL comfortably chased down for the loss of six wickets in 34.3 overs. In a league match earlier in the tournament, KRL had defeated PTV by 71 runs at the Naya Nazimabad Ground.

For KRL, Sufiyan Muqim, Ahmad Hassan, and Shahzaib Khan were the star performers. Sufiyan and Ahmad shared six wickets equally between them, conceding 23 and 25 runs respectively. Shahzaib Khan then scored a decisive 83-ball 53, hitting four fours and a six, to be adjudged Player of the Final.

Shahzaib also finished the tournament as its leading run-scorer with 485 runs from nine matches, including one century and five half-centuries.

For PTV, left-handed opener Shamyl Hussain and spinner Faisal Akram stood out. Shamyl top-scored with a 44-ball 50, featuring six fours and two sixes, but no other batter could play a substantial innings. Amad Butt (24), Taimur Khan (23), and Mohammad Mohsin (22) were the other notable scorers. PTV suffered two major collapses – slipping from 70 for one to 108 for five, and then from 150 for six to 164 all out. Sufiyan Muqim, with figures of three for 23, also finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 20 scalps.

Faisal Akram returned figures of three for 51 for PTV, but KRL were never in serious danger despite two minor blips – sliding from 64 for one to 83 for four, and then from 134 for four to 134 for six.

Along with the trophy, KRL received a winner’s cheque of PKR 5 million, while the runners-up, PTV, collected PKR 2.5 million.
