LAHORE: All four second-round President’s Trophy matches were decided on Monday with a day to spare in Karachi.

The feature of the third day’s play was Mohammad Hamza’s splendid bowling figures of 16-3-72-6 that helped KRL edge out Sahir Associates by six runs, Kashif Bhatti’s match-winning spell of 9.3-1-20-5 that helped State Bank of Pakistan outperform Ghani Glass by 202 runs, Mohammad Umar’s bowling figures of 16.5-3-57-4 that contributed in OGDCL outplaying defending champions PTV by 202 runs and Naqeebullah’s figures of 21-6-47-4 that assisted WAPDA outgun SNGPL by eight wickets.

At the National Bank Stadium, Sahir Associates, resuming on Monday at 42 for four in pursuit of a 228-run target, were dismissed for 221. They were on course for an unlikely win when they reached 219 for six before losing their last four wickets for two runs.

Apart from KRL’s Hamza, Arshad Iqbal also bowled well and bagged three for 62. For Sahir Associates, Mohammad Faiq (70), Asim Ali Nasir (65) and Mohammad Afzal (43) put up a strong challenge.

At the UBL Sports Complex, PTV, after conceding a 103-run first innings lead, resumed their second innings at the overnight score of 22 for no loss and were bowled out for 214 with Shamyl Hussain (34), Arafat Minhas (32), Taimur Khan (28), Mohammad Suleman (27), Waqar Hussain (25), Amad Butt (24) and Usman Salahuddin (21) making small contributions.

For OGDCL, Mohammad Imran (three for 39) and Mushtaq Ahmed (two for 83) were the other successful bowlers besides Mohammad Umar.

OGDCL achieved the modest 112-run victory target in just under 22 overs with Haroon Arshad following up his 104 with 40 not out and Umar Siddiq scoring 40.

At the NBP Sports Complex, SBP, after securing a 28-run first innings lead and starting the day at 194 for three, were dismissed for 307. Muhammad Ghazi Ghori added 25 runs to his overnight score of 113 before departing for a run-a-ball 138 that included 22 fours. Together with Rameez Aziz, Ghazi added 179 runs for the fourth wicket with Rameez contributing 82 from 178 balls with nine fours.

For Ghani Glass, Test fast bowler Mir Hamza returned figures of 23-7-63-5, while Afaq Afridi followed up his four for 85 with three for 87.

Set a 336-run target, Ghani Glass were skittled out for 133 with Kashif Bhatti causing maximum damage. Mohammad Abbas, who took six for 27 in the first innings, picked up three wickets for 23 runs, while Mohammad Ismail snapped up two for 46.

At the State Bank Stadium, WAPDA, after securing a commanding 129-run first innings lead, dismissed SNGPL for 183 after they had started the day at 33 for one. Azan Awais (70) and Muhammad Awais Zafar (46) were the notable run-scorers, while Aqib Khan (two for 43) and Mohammad Adil (two for 61) were other successful bowlers besides Naqeebullah.

WAPDA reached the modest 55-run target in 13.4 overs for the loss of two wickets.

After two rounds, WAPDA are on top of the eight-team points table with 47. They are followed by SNGPL (35), OGDCL (31), KRL, SBP (both 30), Ghani Glass (29) and PTV (27). Sahir Associates are yet to open their accounts.
