Imam 118*, Rizwan 64 On Comeback For Struggling Sides

Imam-ul-Haq scored a century and Mohammad Rizwan a half-century in their comeback matches for struggling sides on the second day of the final-round President’s Trophy matches on Tuesday.

Imam was unbeaten on 118 for seventh-placed Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) against Ghani Glass, while Rizwan’s 64 helped bottom-placed Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) take a first-innings lead against Khan Research Laboratories (KRL).

Both Imam and Rizwan had missed the first six rounds after facing inquiries from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) following the Lord’s Test. Neither the NCCIA nor the Pakistan Cricket Board has commented on the ongoing investigations. It, therefore, remains unclear why they were kept away from the President’s Trophy until the final round, and what their return to competitive cricket means for the inquiries.

Imam, who completed his 17th first-class century, was unbeaten on 118 from 196 balls with 14 fours, while Saad Khan was dismissed for 88 from 107 balls with 11 fours and a six. The two added 193 for the second wicket. Their efforts ensured OGDCL finished the day at 277 for three in reply to Ghani Glass’s 232 at the LCCA Ground.

Rizwan top-scored for SNGPL, who were bowled out for 195 in reply to KRL’s 151. When play ended at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium, KRL were 111 for two in their second innings, with Mohammad Faiq batting on 64.

Rizwan faced 81 balls and struck 10 fours. Sameer Minhas was the other notable run-scorer with 49, while Mohammad Imran Randhawa scored 21 and Abdul Samad 20.

For KRL, Daniyal Ali Khan was the pick of the bowlers with four for 48, while Ahmed Bashir, Arshad Iqbal and Saqib Khan took two wickets apiece.

At the Diamond Cricket Ground, MIT Solutions, who resumed the day at 370 for six and were bowled out for 412, dismissed Pakistan Television (PTV) for 64, with Salman Aslam returning impressive figures of 9-4-18-6.

When play ended, PTV, having been forced to follow on, had reached 177 for two, with opener Waqar Hussain scoring 102 not out from 133 balls with 14 fours and two sixes.

At the National Ground, Kingsmen Academy resumed on Tuesday morning at 328 for eight and were bowled out for 371. When play ended, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) had reached 209 for four.

Kamran Ghulam was SBP’s top-scorer with 88 from 139 balls with 15 fours, while Faham-ul-Haq scored 49 from 68 balls with eight fours. Abdullah Fazal (25) and Ali Shan (23 not out) were the other notable run-scorers.
