LAHORE: Karachi carved out their second win in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy when they defeated Peshawar by 218 runs at the Marghzar Cricket Ground in Islamabad on Saturday.

Iftikhar Ahmed’s 17th career century went in vain as Peshawar, set a 510-run victory target and resuming the final morning at 92 for four, were bowled out for 291. Iftikhar had resumed on his overnight score of 34 and was the eighth batter dismissed at 242 after scoring 108. His 173-ball knock included 16 fours.

Mohammad Haris was the other notable contributor with a 127-ball 60 featuring seven fours and three sixes. Together, Iftikhar and Haris added 138 runs for the sixth wicket after half the Peshawar side had fallen for 96.

For Karachi, Mohammad Hamza added one more wicket on Saturday to finish with five for 63 – his second five-wicket haul in nine matches. Mohammad Umar followed up his six for 30 in the first innings with two for 42.

In the seventh-round matches starting Tuesday, Karachi will face Abbottabad at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium, while Peshawar, who have three wins from six games, will meet Lahore at the Diamond Cricket Ground.

SHAHZAIB SAVES THE DAY FOR ABBOTTABAD

Opener Shahzaib Khan’s century in each innings helped Abbottabad hold FATA to a draw at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium. Shahzaib followed up his 167 with an unbeaten 100 as Abbottabad, forced to follow on and needing 245 to avoid an innings defeat, finished at 165 for three.

Shahzaib’s third century in this event came off 191 balls and included 10 fours and two sixes. Together with Umair Badshah (48), he added 106 runs for the second wicket.

Earlier, Abbottabad, replying to FATA’s 687 for seven declared, had resumed their first innings at 424 for eight and were bowled out for 442. Asif Afridi failed to add to his overnight tally of seven wickets, while Sirajuddin finished with two for 93.

This was the third drawn match for both sides, who have won one each.

In the seventh round, Abbottabad will face Karachi at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium, while FATA will take on Bahawalpur at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium.

FIRST-INNINGS LEAD POINTS FOR SIALKOT

Only 18 wickets fell and a staggering 1,125 runs were scored, including five centuries, as the Sialkot–Bahawalpur match ended in a high-scoring draw at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium.

Sialkot, resuming their first innings at 375 for one in reply to Bahawalpur’s 511 for nine declared, reached 614 for nine when the match was called off.

Azan Awais, who began the day on 156, was dismissed for 164 from 253 balls with 19 fours and a six. Abdullah Shafique, who resumed on 28, scored 71 from 107 balls with 10 fours.

Other notable contributors included Mohsin Riaz (74 off 92 balls, 9 fours, 1 six), Hasan Ali (52 off 39 balls, 9 fours, 1 six) and Usama Mir (45 off 92 balls, 4 fours).

For Bahawalpur, Saad Khan completed an excellent all-round performance, following up his 155 with five for 85 – his first five-wicket haul in 51 matches.

For Sialkot, this was their third drawn match, to go with three wins. Bahawalpur, meanwhile, recorded their fourth draw, alongside one win and one loss.

In the seventh round, Sialkot will meet Multan at the Marghzar Cricket Ground, while Bahawalpur will face FATA at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium.
