LAHORE: After Faisalabad defeated Lahore inside two days on Thursday in a match that lasted just 135.1 overs, Islamabad took an extra day to register their first win of the season — a 10-wicket victory over Multan — in the sixth round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium in Peshawar on Friday.

After posting 333 in their first innings, Islamabad dismissed Multan for 150 on the second day and then bowled them out again for 172 after enforcing the follow-on. Multan had resumed their second innings at 19 for no loss and were lifted briefly by a 62-run seventh-wicket stand between Ali Usman (46) and Ahmar Ashfaq (27).

Shayan Sheikh claimed four for 56 and Hunain Shah finished with three for 25 as Islamabad wrapped up the innings, before chasing down the 10-run target in just five balls.

SAAD BAIG’S CENTURY IN EACH INNINGS

Mirza Saad Baig scored a century in each innings to put Karachi on the verge of victory against Peshawar at the Marghzar Cricket Ground.

Saad followed up his first-innings 109 in Karachi’s 391 with 116 in the second innings, helping his side declare at 283 for three. His achievement came after pacer Mohammad Umar’s impressive figures of 12.3–2–30–6, which bundled Peshawar out for 165 and gave Karachi a commanding 226-run first-innings lead.

When play ended on Friday, Peshawar, chasing a stiff 510-run target, were reeling at 92 for four. Mohammad Hamza had taken all four wickets for 40 runs, while Israrullah (34 not out) and Iftikhar Ahmed (34 not out) had steadied the innings from 20 for four.

Saad faced 153 balls during his 225-minute stay at the crease, striking 12 fours and three sixes. Pakistan captain Shan Masood, who fell for a six-ball duck in the first innings, made amends with an unbeaten 101 off 99 balls, laced with seven fours and two sixes. The pair added 133 runs for the third wicket.

SHAHZAIB’S 167, ASIF AFRIDI’S 7–127

The Abbottabad–FATA fixture at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium looks set for a high-scoring draw after Abbottabad replied strongly to FATA’s 687 for seven declared, closing the third day at 424 for eight.

Resuming at 113 for four, Abbottabad added 311 runs for the loss of four wickets. Shahzaib Khan, who began the day on 45, went on to score 167 off 350 balls with 20 fours and two sixes. Khalid Usman (51 not out), Umair Badshah (38), Khayyam Khan (38), Shahab Khan (31 not out), and Mohammad Suleman (30) were among the other contributors.

Test spinner Asif Afridi bowled tirelessly for 52 overs to return seven for 127.

HURAIRA’S 178, AZAN’S 156* IN SIALKOT’S 375–1

Openers Mohammad Huraira and Azan Awais shared a mammoth 326-run partnership as Sialkot reached 375 for one at stumps, replying to Bahawalpur’s 511 for nine declared at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium.

Sialkot, resuming at 41 without loss, dominated the third day. Huraira made 178 off 216 balls in just under six hours, hitting 24 fours and three sixes. Azan remained unbeaten on 156 off 241 balls, having batted for over six hours and struck 18 fours and a six. Abdullah Shafique was unbeaten on 28 at close.

Gulfam Aziz took the only wicket to fall on the day.
