LAHORE: Two centuries, a missed 100 and four five-wicket hauls were recorded on the second day of the second round of President’s Trophy matches in Karachi on Sunday.
Fast bowler Israr Hussain of defending champions PTV produced the best figures of the day, returning 27.2-5-95-7. However, his effort couldn’t prevent OGDCL from securing a 103-run first-innings lead — built around Haroon Arshad’s 104 — at the UBL Sports Complex.
After PTV were dismissed for 199 in their first innings on Saturday, OGDCL resumed on 73 for one and were bowled out for 302. Haroon struck 14 fours in his 104 off 210 balls, while Umar Siddiq (56) and Israrullah (53) also made valuable contributions. Israr’s burst ensured OGDCL remained in sight late in the innings, as they slid from 218 for two to 302 all out.
PTV, trailing by 103 on first innings, closed the day on 22 without loss, with Shamyl Hussain 21 not out and Waqar Hussain 1 not out.
At the NBP Sports Complex, wicketkeeper-batter Muhammad Ghazi Ghori and fast bowler Mohammad Abbas shared the spotlight in the State Bank versus Ghani Glass match.
After State Bank were bowled out for 202 on Saturday, Abbas ran through Ghani Glass to finish with 22-11-27-6, dismissing them for 174 after they had resumed on 31 for three. Tayyab Tahir top-scored with 60.
With a 28-run first-innings lead, State Bank ended day two on 194 for three, with Ghazi Ghori 113 not out (104 balls, 17 fours) and Rameez Aziz 47 not out adding an unbroken 143 for the fourth wicket.
At the National Bank Stadium, Arshad Iqbal claimed 14-5-24-5, with Ahmed Bashir (3-40) and Mohammad Hamza (two for 50) providing strong support as Sahir Associates were skittled for 123 in reply to KRL’s 204.
KRL, however, failed to capitalise and collapsed to 146 all out in their second innings, with Khan Zaib doing the most damage with 10.4-2-51-5. Bilawal and Mohammad Hasnain took two wickets apiece.
Set 228 to win, Sahir Associates ended the day in trouble at 42 for four, with Arshad Iqbal (two for 14) and Mohammad Hamza (two for 14) sharing the wickets. Sahir will need 186 more runs, while KRL require six wickets, when play resumes on Monday.
At the State Bank Stadium, Khalid Usman fell four short of a century but powered WAPDA to a 129-run first-innings lead over SNGPL.
After dismissing SNGPL for 147, WAPDA resumed on 63 for one and were bowled out for 276. Batting at No.7, Khalid struck a rapid 96 off 88 balls, including 11 fours and five sixes, and dominated an 89-run last-wicket stand with Aqib Khan (15 not out).
