Ghani Glass Win Inside Two Days; Three Five-Fers
Ghani Glass crushed MIT Solutions by an innings and 140 runs inside two days as bowlers dominated Thursday’s fourth-round President’s Trophy Grade-I action.
Sixteen wickets fell at the Abbottabad Cricket Ground, where Ghani Glass were dismissed for 416 after starting the day at 191 for four before MIT Solutions, who had managed only 150 in their first innings, were bundled out for 126 in their second. The emphatic result gave Ghani Glass their second victory of the competition.
Mohsin Riaz, who resumed on 69, registered his fourth first-class century in 37 matches to help Ghani Glass secure a commanding 266-run first-innings lead. He scored 124 from 212 balls with 12 fours and two sixes.
Useful contributions from the lower order strengthened Ghani Glass’s position, with Shadab Khan scoring 68 and Ali Razzaq and Khurram Shahzad contributing 52 apiece.
MIT Solutions’ Mohammad Ismail claimed three of the six Ghani Glass wickets to fall on the second day and finished with impressive figures of six for 136.
In their second innings, MIT Solutions were skittled out for 126 in 32.4 overs, with Ali Shabbir taking four for 23, Mirza Tahir Baig two for four and Khurram Shahzad two for 22. Khurram finished with eight wickets in the match after taking six for 38 in the first innings.
At the Diamond Cricket Ground, table-leaders State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) were eyeing their second victory of the competition after being set 124 runs to beat Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL).
After dismissing OGDCL for 196 in their first innings, SBP resumed at 94 for three and were bowled out for 215. Hasan Raza added six runs to his overnight 52, while Ghazi Ghori added nine to finish with 39. Rameez Aziz and Shahid Aziz contributed useful 43 and 21, respectively, to earn their side a slender 19-run lead.
For OGDCL, Aftab Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers with five for 68, while Mohammad Amir Khan took three for 53.
In their second innings, OGDCL collapsed from 59 for two to 142 all out, with Afaq Afridi returning figures of five for 44 and Sirajuddin claiming three for 50.
No.9 batter Mohammad Amir Khan top-scored for OGDCL with an unbeaten 46, while Saad Khan made 22 and Babar Azam 21.
SBP will require 124 runs for victory with two days remaining.
At the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) took a commanding position against Pakistan Television (PTV) as 17 wickets fell on the second day.
SNGPL resumed at 277 for three and were dismissed for 347 before striking back to bowl out PTV for 153 and secure a massive 194-run first-innings lead.
Test opener Azan Awais, who resumed on 130 not out, was dismissed for 167. His 317-ball innings included 19 fours and a six.
For PTV, Mohammad Shahzad bowled impressively to claim four for 53, while Israr Hussain took three for 77 and Ali Usman two for 43.
PTV then folded for 153, with Ali Usman (35) and Sharoon Siraj (29) their leading scorers.
For SNGPL, Abdul Subhan and Athar Mehmood claimed four wickets apiece, conceding 31 and 41 runs, respectively, while Shahnawaz Dahani took the remaining two wickets.
At the National Ground, Kingsmen Academy amassed 643 after resuming at 430 for three before Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) closed the second day at 175 for two.
Mohammad Suleman, who resumed on 122, was dismissed for 182. His 278-ball innings included 12 fours and two sixes. Salman Ali Agha added another 39 to his overnight 106 before being dismissed for 145 from 165 balls with 13 fours and three sixes. Suleman and Salman added 247 runs for the fourth wicket.
For KRL, T20 specialist Usman Tariq claimed four for 153, while Iftikhar Ahmed took two for 77.
At stumps, KRL were 175 for two with Mohammad Faiq unbeaten on 76 and Iftikhar Ahmed on 45. The pair have added an unbroken 89 for the third wicket after Faiq earlier shared a 79-run second-wicket partnership with Shahzaib Khan (33).
