Sharjeel Khan, Tayyab Arif, Mohammad Farooq, Atiq-ur-Rehman and Salman Khan Junior struck centuries, while Shoaib Akhtar Junior and Mohammad Amir Khan claimed five-wicket hauls on the opening day of the second round of the President’s Trophy at various venues across the country on Friday.

While the emerging cricketers enjoyed a satisfying day, none of the established Pakistan players produced a headline-making performance.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi did not feature for OGDCL and KRL, respectively, Salman Ali Agha scored 25 for Kingsmen Academy, while Haris Rauf took two for 73 for PTV.

The highlight of the opening day was a swashbuckling 163 by MIT Solutions opener Mohammad Farooq, who smashed 14 sixes and 11 fours in a 99-ball innings.

Atiq-ur-Rehman and Salman Khan Junior also made the most of favourable batting conditions, scoring 142 and 106 not out, respectively, as MIT Solutions piled up 476 for four in 87.2 overs after electing to bat first at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium. Atiq’s 137-ball innings included 17 fours and two sixes, while Salman struck 12 fours and a six in his unbeaten 137-ball knock.

There were three significant partnerships in MIT Solutions’ innings. Farooq and Hasnain Nadeem (36) put on 133 for the first wicket, Farooq and Salman added 74 for the third before Salman and Atiq combined for a 242-run fourth-wicket partnership.

At the Diamond Cricket Ground, Shoaib Akhtar Junior returned figures of five for 34 and Khurram Shahzad claimed four for 42 as Ghani Glass dismissed SNGPL for 152 in 41.5 overs. Sameer Minhas scored 53 and Mohammad Imran Randhawa contributed 52.

At stumps, Ghani Glass, powered by Sharjeel Khan’s century, had reached 192 for two in 41 overs. Sharjeel was dismissed after a blistering 156 from 146 balls, including 25 fours and five sixes.

SBP reached 278 for nine against PTV at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium. Opener Hasan Raza scored 75, Ghazi Ghori 66 and Rameez Aziz was unbeaten on 42, while the bowling honours were shared by Musa Khan (three for 47), Amad Butt (three for 60) and Haris Rauf (two for 73).

At the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium in Peshawar, Kingsmen Academy were dismissed for 215 in 57.3 overs, with Tayyab Arif scoring a 110-ball 105 featuring 14 fours and three sixes.

For OGDCL, Mohammad Amir Khan returned figures of five for 51, while Mohammad Hasnain claimed three for 36.

At stumps, OGDCL were in a spot of bother at 57 for three, with Mohammad Ilyas claiming two wickets for 31 runs. Rohail Nazir (14) and Mohammad Salman (0) will resume OGDCL’s first innings on Saturday.
