Fakhar Zaman’s second successive century sent Shaheen Shah Afridi-led Pakistan Gold crashing out of the National Champions Cup after Shadab Khan-captained Pakistan Greens won their second successive match in Multan on Thursday.

Fakhar Zaman followed up his 123 against Pakistan Whites in the opening match with a flawless 115 that propelled Pakistan Greens to 314 in 50 overs. In turn, Pakistan Gold were dismissed for 186 in 37 overs despite a blazing 40-ball 53 by Shamyl Hussain.

While the second successive defeat ended Gold’s quest for a place in the final with Saturday’s match against Pakistan Whites in hand, Pakistan Greens, following their 128 runs victory, moved to the top of the table with two successive victories.

Fakhar slapped seven fours and four sixes in a 105-ball 115 and featured in a 181-run second wicket partnership with Omair Bin Yousuf. Omair showed a lot of class, style and positive intent while scoring 74 from 73 balls with nine fours and one six.

While Fakhar started briskly at the top, Shadab Khan finished with an impactful 61 from 51 balls with four fours and two sixes. After Greens slipped to 208 for four, Shadab added 72 runs for the fifth wicket with Farhan Yousaf, who contributed 40 from 37 balls with four fours and a six.

For Pakistan Gold, Shaheen Shah Afridi looked good and strong while recording figures of 10-1-47-3, while his new ball partner Abdul Subhan returned figures of 8-0-55-3. Surprisingly, apart from Shaheen, only Muhammad Imran Randhawa (10-0-59-1) completed his 10-over quota as Pakistan Gold used eight bowlers. Subhan and Faisal Akram bowled eight overs apiece, while Razaullah bowled five, Saad Khan four, Kamran Ghulam three and Haider Ali two.

Chasing 315 for victory, Shamyl Hussain gave Gold a start, striking a 40-ball 53. But after he was the second batter to be dismissed at the score of 74, the innings disintegrated from there and ended at 186 in 37 overs. Haider Ali (30), Kamran Ghulam (26) and Abdul Samad (20) were the other notable run-scorers.

For Pakistan Greens, fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain bowled well and was rewarded with three wickets for 32 runs, while Mehran Mumtaz bagged two wickets for 35 runs.
