Fakhar Zaman and Salman Ali Agha struck centuries on the opening day of the first-round action in the eight-team President’s Trophy first-class tournament, which got under way across four venues on Saturday.

Fakhar scored 128 for Khan Research Laboratory (KRL), who closed the day on 371 for five against Ghani Glass at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium. No. 5 batter Imran Rafiq was unbeaten on 95 at stumps, five runs short of his eighth first-class century, with wicketkeeper/batter Asim Ali Nasir unbeaten on 51 (71b, 6×4, 2×6).

Fakhar, who scored his seventh first-class century, struck 16 fours and two sixes in a 136-ball innings. Imran Rafiq has faced 134 balls and hit 13 fours. The pair added 90 runs for the fourth wicket after KRL won the toss and elected to bat first.

Mohammad Wasim Jnr and Ghulam Haider took two wickets apiece for Ghani Glass.

At the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, Salman Ali Agha completed his 18th first-class century shortly before stumps as Kingsmen Academy reached 257 for three in 75 overs after being put in by MIT Solutions. Salman has faced 171 balls and struck 16 fours.

Together with Mohammad Suleman, who was unbeaten on 83 from 164 balls with eight fours and two sixes, Salman had added 185 runs for the unbroken fourth wicket. The pair came together with Kingsmen Academy on 72 for three.

The other two matches in Islamabad were affected by bad weather.

Only 19 overs were possible at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium, where State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) were 44 for three after being sent in by Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL). At the Diamond Cricket Ground, Pakistan Television (PTV) were 131 for three after electing to bat first against Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL).
