LAHORE: Faisalabad defeated FATA by an innings and 213 runs with more than five sessions to spare in a fourth-round Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match at the Marghzar Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Resuming their second innings at 10 for two and trailing Faisalabad by 271 runs on the first innings, FATA were bundled out for a paltry 58 in 20.4 overs.

Asad Raza, who took two for 49 in the first innings, was the most successful bowler with four for 16, while Jahandad Khan followed up his three for 26 with three for 18. Afaq Ahmed Afridi also had a good outing, taking three for 56 in the first innings and then two for 15 in the second.

In the round action starting 30 October, Faisalabad will take on Peshawar at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium, while FATA will meet Islamabad at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium.

PESHAWAR v ABBOTTABAD

Peshawar were in a commanding position against Abbottabad at stumps on the third day, leading by 461 runs with seven second-innings wickets standing.

Peshawar, who had scored 448 for nine declared in their first innings, dismissed Abbottabad for 181, and then took control by finishing the day at 194 for one, with opener Waqar Ahmed undefeated on 100 – his sixth career and first century of the season. He faced 119 balls and hit 12 fours.

Earlier, Abbottabad resumed their first innings at 159 for six and managed to add only 22 runs before being dismissed for 181. Off-spinner Iftikhar Ahmed and fast bowler Niaz Khan finished with four wickets apiece, conceding 21 and 56 runs, respectively.

SIALKOT v ISLAMABAD

Sialkot were in sight of victory against Islamabad at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium.

After securing a 221-run first-innings lead, Sialkot resumed on the third day at 50 for three and declared their second innings at 246 for seven. Islamabad, set a 468-run target, were reeling at 107 for three, with opener Shamyl Hussain back in the pavilion after scoring 35, while Rizwan Ali was still at the crease on 45.

Sialkot’s second innings was dominated by Ayaz Tasawar, who top-scored with 84 off 133 balls, hitting nine fours and a six. For Islamabad, Kaleem Adil was the most successful bowler with four for 67.

LAHORE v KARACHI

The Lahore-Karachi contest was delicately poised after the third day’s play, with Karachi, after conceding a 32-run first-innings lead, reaching 103 for three in their second innings. Karachi lead by 71 runs with seven wickets intact, including that of opener Saad Baig, who retired hurt after scoring 59.

Earlier, Lahore — resuming their first innings at 215 for two after Karachi had posted 424 — were dismissed for 456. The highlight of the innings was Tayyab Tahir’s 108 off 117 balls, featuring 17 fours and two sixes. This was Tayyab’s ninth career century and first of the season.

Together with Test fast bowler Mohammad Abbas (31), Tayyab added 83 vital runs for the ninth wicket, helping Lahore earn a useful 32-run first-innings lead.

Ali Zaryab Asif, who resumed at 76, was unlucky to miss a century by nine runs, falling for 91 off 182 balls with nine fours. Hussain Talat, who was 15 overnight, scored 57 (7×4, 2×6, 97b) as the two put on 53 runs for the third wicket.

For Karachi, Mohammad Asghar took four for 93, while Mir Hamza and Saqib Khan claimed two wickets each.

BAHAWALPUR v MULTAN

Multan conceded a 39-run first-innings lead to Bahawalpur at the Diamond Cricket Ground, as their match headed towards a high-scoring draw.

In reply to Bahawalpur’s 501, Multan resumed on 111 for one and were dismissed for 462, with Imran Butt and Aamer Yamin scoring centuries.

Imran, who started the day on 34, was dismissed for 113 – his first of the tournament and 16th overall – hitting 11 fours off 207 balls. Aamer remained 100 not out – also his first of the season and fifth overall – from 87 balls with 14 fours and a six.

The two batters had joined hands at 303 for eight and stitched a 143-run ninth-wicket partnership that pulled Multan out of trouble. However, their efforts were not enough to prevent Bahawalpur from securing a 39-run first-innings lead.

For Bahawalpur, fast bowler Mohammad Azab was outstanding, returning figures of 29–5–130–5, while Saad Khan took two for 33.
