Joe Root and Jordan Cox put on 128 for an unbroken third wicket to steer England to an eight-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Edgbaston Test, sealing a 3-0 series sweep in the process.
In a Pakistan-like second innings, Mohammad Abbas dismissed Ben Duckett off the first ball of England’s second innings and then added the scalp of Emilio Gay five balls later, as the home side slipped to two for two. Just as Shan Masood and Azan Awais had earlier added 125 for Pakistan’s second wicket to repair the damage in their own innings, Root and Cox stitched together their own 128-run stand, this time in 143 balls, to see England home.
Root finished unbeaten on 62 from 69 balls, with eight fours, while Cox made 59 from 76 balls, also with eight fours.
