Conquerors Fight Back To Tie National Women’s One-day Final And Share Title With Stars
LAHORE: Defending champions Stars lost seven wickets for just 39 runs inside the last 10 overs of the match to tie the National One-Day Tournament final with Conquerors at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad on Sunday. Both sides were declared joint-winners.
Chasing 219 for victory, Stars were cruising for a comfortable victory when they reached 179 for three after 40 overs, before they collapsed to 216 for nine in 49 overs. Needing three runs for victory in the final over, No.11 batter Anam Amin was run-out by Ayesha Bilal while attempting to complete the winning run as Stars were dismissed for 218 on the third ball of the final over.
Conquerors’ Saima Malik was the chief destroyer of Stars’ run-chase when she finished with impressive bowling figures of 8-0-42-4. Umm-e-Hani dismissed the top three batters for 29 runs and Ayesha Bilal took two wickets for 39 runs.
For the Stars, Sidra Amin was the top-scorer with a 58-ball 51 (8 x4), while Kaynat Hafeez (37), Gull Rukh (35), Warda Yousuf (26) and Syeda Aroob Shah (21) were the notable run-scorers. Sidra and Kaynat featured in an 82-run third-wicket partnership, the highest of the match, to put Stars at 151 for two and within touching distance.
Earlier, Iram Javed top-scored with 51 from 70 balls with five fours as Conquerors, put into bat, were dismissed for 218 in 50 overs. Saira Jabeen was the other impressive batter with a 52-ball 43 with five fours, while Fatima Sana contributed 33 and Sidra Nawaz scored 20.
For Stars, Syeda Masooma Zahra was the pick of bowlers with three for 38, while Diana Baig and Anam Amin equally shared four wickets between them.
