LAHORE: Waqar Ahmed and Sarmad Bhatti struck centuries to help KRL take a commanding position against State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on the second day of the President’s Trophy fourth-round fixture at the SBP Sports Complex on Friday.

Waqar scored 138 and Sarmad was unbeaten on 100 as the duo added 129 runs for the fifth wicket, lifting KRL from 158-4 to 365-8 at stumps. KRL had resumed the morning at 135-3 after dismissing SBP for a modest 106 on the opening day.

Waqar’s 138 came off 244 balls with 17 boundaries, while Sarmad has faced 257 balls so far, hitting 10 fours. For SBP, Niaz Khan was the pick of the bowlers with 3-77, while Rameez Aziz and Shahid Aziz took two wickets apiece.

At the KCCA Stadium, OGDCL’s Asif Afridi claimed the remaining two Sahir Associates wickets to finish with impressive figures of 7-73 as Sahir Associates added just three runs to their overnight score of 245 to be bowled out for 248.

By the close of play, OGDCL had reached 220 for six, led by opener Umar Siddiq’s 79 off 180 balls. Danish Aziz (43) and Asif Afridi (22) were at the crease, having added 54 runs for the unfinished seventh-wicket partnership.

At the National Bank Stadium, defending champions PTV were left struggling against SNGPL, finishing the day at 99-5 – a narrow overall lead of 27 runs with five wickets remaining.

SNGPL, starting the day at 58 for three in reply to PTV’s 166, were eventually dismissed for 238. Wicketkeeper-batter Saifullah Bangash top-scored with 71, supported by Sajid Khan (34) and Omair Bin Yousuf (42).

Ali Usman led the PTV attack with 4-66, while Amad Butt and Israr Hussain took three wickets each.

Trailing by 72 on the first innings, PTV’s second-innings top order was rattled by Shehzad Gul and Shahnawaz Dahani, who took two wickets each.

At the UBL Sports Complex, Ghani Glass built an 85-run lead over WAPDA with eight second-innings wickets intact.

WAPDA resumed at 129 for four in response to Ghani Glass’s 142 but were bowled out for 223 as Test spinner Noman Ali caused havoc, finishing with figures of 24-6-59-7.

Ayaz Tasawar was the lone bright spot for WAPDA with 78.

In their second turn at the crease, Ghani Glass reached 166 for thanks to a 107-run opening stand between Khawaja Arham (68, 117b, 9×4, 2×6) and Kashif Ali (53, 101b, 6×4, 1×6). Mohsin Riaz (22 not out) and Tayyab Tahir (21 not out) will resume play tomorrow.
