LAHORE: State Bank of Pakistan’s Abdullah Fazal scored a century and WAPDA’s Aqib Khan claimed a five-fer on the opening day of the President’s Trophy’s second round matches in Karachi on Saturday.

On a day when 14 wickets fell at the NBP Sports Complex, Abdullah Fazal stood tall, scoring 113 to help SBP reach 202 all-out against Ghani Glass, who themselves were struggling at the close of play, reaching 31 for three.

Abdullah’s 176-ball innings included 15 fours. He added 43 runs for the second wicket with Hasan Raza (17) and 58 runs for the third wicket with Ghazi Ghori (19) before SBP lost their way to slip from 103 for two to 202 all-out.

Ghani Glass’s Afaq Afridi picked up four for 85, Ubaid Shah snapped up three for 45 and Mir Hamza took two for 24.

Ghani Glass failed to capitalise from this position and ended the day at 31 for three after Test pacer Mohammad Abbas took two for 8. Tayyab Tahir (19) and Mohammad Rameez Junior (1) will resume Ghani Glass’s first innings on Sunday morning.

At the State Bank Stadium, WAPDA’s Aqib Khan returned figures of 21-8-39-5 as SNGPL were dismissed for 147, with Omair Bin Yousuf top-scoring with 45 and Saad Khan scoring 21. Besides Aqib, Naqeebullah and Mohammad Adil took two wickets apiece.

In turn, WAPDA reached 63 for one with Imran Dogar and Muhammad Ammar batting on 33 and 24 runs, respectively.

KRL were dismissed for 204 but fought back to reduce Sahir Associates to 46 for four at stumps at the National Bank Stadium. KRL’s Saad Baig scored 64 (83b, 11 x 4) and Hamza Nazar 46 (54b, 7 x 4, 1 x 6) excelled for KRL, while Mohammad Mohsin Khan, Bilawal, and Mohammad Hasnain took two wickets each for Sahir Associates.

When Sahir Associates batted, they were rocked by KRL’s Arshad Iqbal, who grabbed three of the four wickets to fall.

At the UBL Sports Complex, OGDCL’s Muhammad Umar took four for 54, Muhammad Imran claimed three for 55 and Mushtaq Ahmed snapped up two for 39 to bowl PTV out for 199. Mohammad Taha was the top-scorer with 63 (116b, 9 x 4, 1 x 6), while Arafat Minhas scored 33.

At close, OGDCL were 73 for one with Israrullah batting on 47 alongside Umar Siddiq (4).
