Discarded Pakistan opener Abdullah Fazal struck an unbeaten triple-century and shared a 417-run opening partnership with Hasan Raza to put State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) in a commanding position against Ghani Glass on the third day of the President’s Trophy Grade-I at the National Ground in Islamabad on Saturday.

Abdullah, who resumed on 168 not out, finished unbeaten on a career-best 309, while Hasan, who started the day on 204, was dismissed for 222. Their stand helped SBP declare their first innings at 638 for five after resuming at 378 without loss in reply to Ghani Glass’ 322.

Abdullah faced 339 balls and struck 29 fours and 11 sixes. It was the second triple-century of this season’s tournament after Salman Ali Agha’s unbeaten 300 for Kingsmen Academy against MIT Solutions in the opening round. Hasan faced 321 balls and hit 31 fours and two sixes. Kamran Ghulam (54) and Ghazi Ghori (32 not out) were the other notable contributors.

At stumps, Ghani Glass had reached 125 for two in their second innings and still required another 191 runs to make SBP bat again.

At the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, a sizeable crowd endured a disappointing outing from Babar Azam, who scored just 12 from 20 balls on his first-class return as OGDCL were forced to follow on by KRL.

After KRL were dismissed for 398, having resumed at 377 for eight, OGDCL were bowled out for 217. Mohammad Hammad Khan top-scored with an unbeaten 56, while Rohail Nazir made 48 and Danish Aziz 40.

Fast bowler Arshad Iqbal was the destroyer-in-chief, returning five for 55. His haul included Babar, who was caught at short mid-wicket after failing to control a short-pitched delivery.

At stumps, OGDCL were 34 without loss in their second innings.

Earlier, KRL added 21 runs to their overnight total. Sarmad Bhatti, who resumed on 122, was dismissed for 136. For OGDCL, Mohammad Hasnain claimed three for 96, while Mohammad Amir Khan and Razaullah took two wickets apiece.

At the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, Khalid Usman returned figures of six for 64 as SNGPL were bowled out for 233 in reply to MIT Solutions’ 434 for nine declared. SNGPL had resumed at 32 for three. Omair Bin Yousuf top-scored with 61, while Mohammad Imran Randhawa made 46.

MIT Solutions then reached 33 for one in their second innings and lead by 234 runs with nine wickets intact.

At the Diamond Cricket Ground, Kingsmen Academy secured a 213-run first-innings lead over PTV, who closed the day at 62 for two in their second innings. Kingsmen resumed at 237 for two and declared at 568 for eight.

Pakistan batter Saud Shakeel struck his 24th first-class century, scoring 100 from 197 balls with 18 fours.

Mohammad Huraira, who resumed on 133, went on to make 165 from 263 balls with 23 fours and a six. Salman Ali Agha contributed 72, Mohammad Shayan remained unbeaten on 53 and Azan Tariq added 48.

For PTV, Mohammad Taha claimed three for 34, while Kashif Ali took two for 97.
