48 Wickets Fall On Opening Day Of Fourth Round President’s Trophy Matches
LAHORE: A total of 48 wickets fell on the opening day of fourth-round President’s Trophy matches, with three sides completing their first innings across various cricket centres in Karachi.
Seventh-placed State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) were bundled out for 106 by fourth-placed Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) at the SBP Sports Complex, with Mohammad Hamza claiming 4 for 17, Ahmed Bashir 3 for 39 and Abdul Wahid 3 for 49. For SBP, Muhammad Ghazi Ghori was the main run-scorer with 40.
At stumps, KRL had reached 135 for three, with Waqar Ahmed continuing his fine form by scoring 57 not out off 87 balls with eight fours. He added an unbroken 71 for the fourth wicket with Imran Rafiq (25 not out). Saad Baig made 29, while SBP’s Rameez Aziz was the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 26.
Defending champions and third-placed Pakistan Television (PTV) were dismissed for 166 by second-placed Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), who closed the day on 58 for three at the National Bank Stadium.
Amad Butt (46 not out) and Mohammad Taha (38) were the principal scorers for PTV, while SNGPL’s Shehzad Gul (4 for 40), Shahnawaz Dahani (2 for 23) and Sajid Khan (2 for 75) were the main wicket-takers.
Although PTV’s Ali Usman struck two early blows, Omair Bin Yousuf (26 not out) ensured SNGPL ended the day at 58 for three after sliding from 23 without loss to 37 for three.
Sixteen wickets fell at the UBL Sports Complex, where sixth-placed Ghani Glass, batting first, were dismissed for 142 by leaders WAPDA, who finished the day at 129 for four.
For Ghani Glass, Ali Razzaq top-scored with an unbeaten 64 off 108 balls, including nine fours and two sixes, while Tayyab Tahir scored 33. For WAPDA, Naqeebullah took 3 for 46, while Mujtaba Khan, Khalid Usman and Mohammad Zeeshan shared six wickets between them.
Ayaz Tasawar (42 not out) and Sharoon Siraj (23) then added 71 for the fourth wicket after WAPDA had slipped to 58 for three, with Test spinner Noman Ali taking 3 for 40.
Test spinner Asif Afridi and Mohammad Faiq produced standout bowling and batting performances, respectively at the KCCA Stadium, where bottom-placed Sahir Associates reached 245 for eight against fifth-placed OGDCL.
Asif finished with figures of 33.1-5-72-5, but Faiq’s 93 off 188 balls with seven fours, and Asim Ali Nasir’s 59 off 115 balls with five fours, kept the contest evenly poised. Faiq and Asim added 97 for the third wicket, while Faiq later put on 53 for the fifth wicket with Mohammad Saleem, who was unbeaten on 40 at the close.
