MULTAN: Twenty wickets fell at the Marghzar Cricket Ground on the second day of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match, with Sialkot’s No.10 batter Hasan Ali shining with the bat and Multan’s Ali Usman claiming his second five-wicket haul of the match.

After Sialkot were dismissed for 288 on Tuesday, Multan resumed their first innings at 63 for two and were bowled out for 139. Multan’s spin duo of Usama Mir and Mehran Mumtaz were the standout performers, finishing with impressive figures of five for 28 and five for 48, respectively.

After securing a 149-run first-innings lead, Sialkot were dismissed for 241 in their second innings — thanks to a rearguard effort after slipping to 101 for eight. The last two wickets added 140 runs, including an 87-run stand for the final wicket.

Pakistan all-rounder Hasan Ali led Sialkot’s fightback with a blistering 91 from 64 balls, hitting eight fours and seven sixes. For the ninth wicket, he added 53 runs with Afzal Manzoor (25) and 87 for the last wicket with Usama Mir (18).

Multan’s left-arm spinner Ali Usman followed up his first-innings figures of 34-7-98-5 with 21-5-98-5 to finish with match figures of 10 for 196. Ghulam Haider, who had taken three for 94 in the first innings, claimed three for 58.

Set a victory target of 391, Multan closed the day on 103 for two — still requiring 287 runs for an incredible come-from-behind win. Zain Abbas (41*) and Waqar Hussain (23*) will resume Multan’s chase on Thursday.

FAISALABAD v ISLAMABAD

Test fast bowler Khurram Shahzad outshone young pacer Hunain Shah as Faisalabad took firm control against Islamabad at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium.

Faisalabad, resuming at 322 for four, were dismissed for 386 with Mohammad Awais Zafar adding 10 more runs to his overnight 138 before falling for 148.
Hunain Shah was the pick of the bowlers with five for 84, while Mohammad Musa Khan took two for 59.

Islamabad’s batters failed to capitalise on Hunain’s fine spell, folding for 159. Khurram Shahzad ran through the middle order to finish with five for 53, while left-armer Jahandad Khan, who had earlier scored a useful 40, took three for 27.

With a commanding 227-run first-innings lead, Faisalabad ended the day at eight without loss.

LAHORE v PESHAWAR

Peshawar were leading Lahore by 123 runs with eight wickets in hand when play ended at the Diamond Cricket Ground.

After scoring 245 in their first innings, Peshawar bowled out Lahore — who had resumed at 30 for two — for 230. Test off-spinner Sajid Khan took five for 82, while Mohammad Irfan picked up three for 53.

For Lahore, Qasim Akram top-scored with 82 (126b, 7×4, 3×6) and Ali Zaryab contributed 57 (133b, 7×4). Obaid Shahid was the only other batter to reach 20.

Holding a slender 15-run lead, Peshawar reached 108 for two at stumps, with Israrullah unbeaten on 61 (103b, 5×4, 2×6) alongside Iftikhar Ahmed (7).

KARACHI v ABBOTTABAD

Fast bowler Saqib Khan’s seven-wicket haul and Test captain Shan Masood’s unbeaten century put Karachi in a commanding position against Abbottabad at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium.

After Karachi posted 258 in their first innings, Abbottabad — resuming at 31 for three — were dismissed for 191. Saqib, who had taken all three wickets the previous evening, added four more to finish with exceptional figures of 15.1-3-34-7.

With a 67-run first-innings lead, Karachi reached 202 for three at stumps. Shan Masood was unbeaten on 114 off 116 balls with 14 fours and two sixes. Saud Shakeel made 33, while Usman Khan (20*) will resume the innings with Shan.

FATA v BAHAWALPUR

Off-spinner Hayatullah returned superb figures of 19-4-71-6 as FATA tightened their grip over Bahawalpur at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium.

Hayatullah’s spell helped bowl out Bahawalpur for 146 in reply to FATA’s 396, after FATA had resumed the morning at 271 for five. Rehan Afridi (88) and Asif Afridi (26) were the key contributors with the bat.

Following on 250 runs behind, Bahawalpur finished the day on 0 for none.
