LAHORE: Sialkot defeated Multan by 204 runs, Peshawar overcame Lahore by 85 runs, and FATA outplayed Bahawalpur by an innings on the penultimate day of the seventh-round Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixture. Elsewhere, Karachi were eyeing victory over Abbottabad, while Faisalabad were on top against Islamabad.

HAMZA NAZAR AND MEHRAN MUMTAZ SHINE WITH BALL

Hamza Nazar returned figures of 19-1-64-5 and Mehran Mumtaz recorded 22-7-70-4 as Sialkot defeated Multan by 204 runs.The efforts of the two bowlers saw Multan being bundled out for 186 after they were set a 391-run victory target.

While Nazar was wicketless in Multan’s first innings, Mumtaz had captured five for 48, finishing the match with nine wickets for 118 runs.

Sialkot had scored 288 and 241, while Multan managed 139 and 186.

SAJID KHAN SPINS PESHAWAR TO VICTORY

Test off-spinner Sajid Khan followed up his five for 82 with five for 60 to bowl Peshawar to an 85-run victory over Lahore at the Diamond Cricket Ground.Lahore were set a 253-run target but managed only 167, with Mohammad Abdullah scoring 52 and opener Ali Zaryab contributing 43.

Earlier, Peshawar, who had secured a 15-run first-innings lead, resumed their second innings at 108 for two and were bowled out for 237.Opener Israrullah made 76, while Mohammad Haris scored 45.

For Lahore, Test spinner Noman Ali followed up his four for 78 in the first innings with five for 112, while Test fast bowler Mohammad Abbas took four for 33.However, the efforts of the two bowlers were wasted by the Lahore batters, who failed for the second time in the match.

FATA WIN BY AN INNINGS

FATA defeated Bahawalpur by an innings and 86 runs at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, following an all-round bowling performance.

After FATA posted 396 and then dismissed Bahawalpur for 146, the visitors were forced to follow on and resumed their second innings at 0-0.However, Bahawalpur’s second innings lasted just 41.1 overs as they were dismissed for 164, with Mohammad Umair finishing as top scorer with 32.

For FATA, Sirajuddin and Hayatullah took three wickets apiece, while Khushdil Shah and Asif Afridi claimed two each.

SHAMYL LEADS ISLAMABAD’S MAMMOTH RUN-CHASE

Opener Shamyl Hussain stroked his fourth century of the tournament to lead Islamabad’s run chase against Faisalabad at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium.The left-hander was unbeaten on 101 from 111 balls with 17 fours, adding a 159-run first-wicket partnership with Abdul Faseeh (57, 122b, 8×4), who was dismissed shortly before stumps to leave Islamabad at 159 for one in a 449-run chase.

Earlier, Faisalabad, who had secured a 227-run first-innings lead and resumed this morning at eight for no loss, declared their second innings at 221 for two.Opener Sardar Hassan Raza showed sparkling form, finishing 106 not out from 103 balls with 13 fours.

Asim Ali Nasir contributed a 47-ball 42 with six fours and one six, adding 93 runs for the third wicket with Sardar Hassan Raza, who also put on 99 runs for the unfinished third wicket with Mohammad Awais Zafar (52, 39b, 4×4, 2×6).

SHAN MASOOD’S 250 PUTS KARACHI ON TOP

Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood scored an unconquered 250 to put Karachi in a commanding position against Abbottabad at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium.

Shan, who resumed this morning on 114 in Karachi’s 202 for three, was 250 not out when the innings was declared at 451 for five.This set Abbottabad an improbable 519-run target, and they closed the day at 147 for four.

Shan’s 234-ball innings was laced with 28 fours and six sixes.He added 181 runs for the fifth wicket with Rameez Aziz (78, 81b, 7×4, 4×6) and 59 runs for the unbroken sixth wicket with Danish Aziz (24 not out).

When Abbottabad resumes their second innings on Friday at 147 for four, with Kamran Ghulam (47*) and Ahmed Khan (5*) at the crease, they will require another 372 runs for victory.
