LAHORE: Pakistan’s forgotten wrist-spinner Usama Mir on Thursday turned unplayable as Sialkot thrashed Lahore Blues by 110 runs in the National T20 Cup at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium in Peshawar.

Usama, who played 12 ODIs and five T20Is from January 2023 to April 2024, returned unbelievable figures of 3.2-0-8-6 as Lahore, chasing 211 runs for victory, collapsed from 67 for one to 100 all-out in 14.2 overs.

Usama accounted for Umar Siddiq (31) and Hamza Zahoor (37), who had put on 55 runs for the second wicket. The 30-year-old’s other four scalps included Hammad Butt (9), Qasim Akram (1), Nisar Ahmed (8), and Mohammad Rizwan (0).

Usama’s bowling effort overshadowed excellent knocks from Abdullah Shafique, Ahsan Hafeez Bhatti, Hasan Nawaz, and Mohsin Riaz, which lifted Sialkot to 210 for four after they had been sent into bat.

Abdullah struck six fours and three sixes in a 31-ball 57, Ahsan’s 17-ball 47 not out included five fours and three sixes, Hasan hit three fours and two sixes in a 28-ball 41, and Mohsin’s unbeaten 30 off 26 balls included three fours.

Abdullah and Hasan added 80 runs for the third wicket, while Ahsan and Mohsin put on 76 runs for the unfinished fifth wicket. This was Sialkot’s first win in two matches, while it was Lahore’s first defeat in two.

In the other match of the day, Multan destroyed Karachi Blues by 74 runs. This was Multan’s second win in three matches, while it was Karachi’s second defeat in three.

Imam ul Haq scored a quickfire 71 off 40 balls with nine fours and two sixes that laid the foundation of Multan’s 201 for six after they had been put into bat.

Imam added 70 runs for the opening wicket with Mohammad Naeem (39, 25b, 7 x 4, 1 x 6), which was cashed in on by middle-order batter Bismillah Khan, who scored 34 from 23 balls with two fours and a six. Waseem Akram Jnr provided the final touches when he struck three fours and a six in a 14-ball 22 not out.

For Karachi, Shahnawaz Dahani was the most successful bowler with two for 39, while Asad Akhtar, Khalil Ahmed, and Jahandad Khan took one wicket apiece.

Karachi were never in the hunt for the target as their innings continued to wobble from the start until it capitulated in 15.4 overs at the score of 127. Usman Khan top-scored with 43 from 23 balls with three fours and two sixes, while opener Ahsan Ali scored 20 from 14 balls with one four and two sixes.

For Multan, Mohammad Ismail was the pick of the bowlers with three for 25, while Arafat Minhas took two for 25.
